Former swimmer Park Tae-hwan has revealed that the meals prepared by his mother played a crucial role in his athletic career.
On the October 3rd episode of KBS2TV's 'New Release, Pyeon Restaurant,' Park's mother, Yoo Seong-mi, showcased a 16-dish 'gold medal' meal she prepared for her son.
During the broadcast, Park shared the dishes his mother used to make during his swimming career and gave a glimpse into their refrigerator. Yoo Seong-mi prepared a protein-rich diet for Park, even when he was injured and in a cast during a competition in Brisbane, Australia.
Park stated, "Since I was an athlete, my mom prepared a protein-focused diet for me. She made grilled fish more than three times and prepared a variety of side dishes, more than six in total."
Chef Lee Yeon-bok, who was listening, remarked, "The cooking level is that of a professional chef. I should call her Chef Yoo," expressing admiration for her culinary skills. Yoo Seong-mi revealed, "I cooked every day at 2 a.m. because I had to take him to early morning training. I woke up earlier than him to pack his lunch, which he ate in the car."
Her dedication to her son extended beyond meal preparation. Even after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Yoo Seong-mi continued to support Park. She shared, "I wore a wig to hide my chemotherapy from him and even went to the National Sports Festival in Jeju. Watching his games was my greatest happiness," she said, moving the audience.
