South Korean Lawyer Yang So-young Announces 'Graduation from Marriage' on TV Show

South Korean lawyer Yang So-young, 54, has publicly declared her decision to 'graduate from marriage' with her husband.

On the September 29th episode of Channel A's 'Best Friends Talkumentary - Four-Person Dining Table,' actress Bang Eun-hee invited her close friends, lawyer Yang So-young and actress Yul-hee, to join her on the show.

During the episode, Yang So-young shared, “When I announced my decision to graduate from marriage, I received calls from everyone in the neighborhood. They said they would pray for me. My husband couldn’t even show his face around.”

Explaining her reasons, Yang stated, “It wasn’t because of my husband. I spent my 20s studying for exams and got married in my 30s. I never got to experience MTs, blind dates, or travel before marriage, and now I’m in my mid-50s. Suddenly, I felt a sense of reality hit me. I wondered where my life was. It wasn’t about my husband; I just wanted to live a life of my own.”

Yang continued, “When I told my husband about my wish to graduate from marriage, he seemed shocked and suggested I read a book. I thought it was a love confession, but it turned out to be a hospice worker’s memoir. He had highlighted a part about how it’s beautiful for an elderly couple to live together and support each other. I wondered if he wanted me to be his hospice.”

She added humorously that since her announcement, her husband has become “a tiny bit sweeter,” even driving her to the filming location.

Meanwhile, Yang So-young is known for having sent all three of her children—two daughters and a son—to Seoul National University.
