Yulhee Opens Up About Depression Following Divorce from Choi Minhwan

Yulhee, former member of the girl group LABOUM, has revealed that she suffered from severe depression following her divorce from FT Island's Choi Minhwan.

On the recent episode of Channel A's 'Best Friends Documentary - Table for Four,' actress Bang Eun-hee invited her close friends, lawyer Yang So-young and actress Yulhee, to join her.

Yulhee, who was active in the entertainment industry, became pregnant with Choi Minhwan's child at the age of 21 in 2017 and gave birth to their first child at 22. She shared, "My mom was very upset when she found out about the pregnancy. She had me at 23 and cried, saying, 'I hoped you wouldn't live like I did.'"

After having three children, Yulhee divorced Choi Minhwan in 2023. She currently meets her children through visitation rights. She proudly mentioned, "I always miss my kids. My 8-year-old son says, 'I miss you even when I'm looking at you.'"

Regarding the divorce, Yulhee stated, "I asked my parents not to ask me anything." Her parents learned about the reason for the divorce through news articles. She added, "My mom called me crying, asking why I hadn't told her for years."

When asked why she didn't disclose the reason for the divorce earlier, Yulhee explained, "I was scared and didn't have the courage. I felt it was like spitting on my own face. I was ashamed of the divorce being public. I wanted to handle it quietly and cleanly, for the sake of the children."

Following the divorce, Yulhee sought counseling at the recommendation of her agency. She revealed, "I was diagnosed with depression. I thought it was due to environmental changes, but it was actually lethargy and insomnia caused by depression. I was advised to take medication, but after I started running, I stopped the medication and the insomnia disappeared."

In October last year, Yulhee accused Choi Minhwan of frequenting entertainment establishments and sexual harassment. Choi Minhwan countered, claiming the divorce was due to Yulhee's frequent absences and neglect of childcare. In November of the same year, Yulhee filed a petition with the Seoul Family Court for a change of custody, alimony, and division of property, but the mediation was unsuccessful as both parties could not reach an agreement.
