Heartbreaking Farewell: Song Joong-ki's Character Bids Goodbye Amid Illness in 'My Youth'

In a tear-jerking episode of JTBC's 'My Youth' aired last night at 8:50 PM, Song Joong-ki's character, Sun Woo-hae, bids farewell to Chun Woo-hee's character, Sung Jae-yeon, as he battles an illness.

During the episode, Kim Pil-doo, played by Jin Kyung, informs Sung Jae-yeon about the recruitment of Nam Joon-ho, saying, "There's good news and bad news. The good news is that Nam Joon-ho, played by Hong Woo-jin, has been confirmed." Sung Jae-yeon expresses her happiness, saying, "That's great news. It's something we've been hoping for." However, she is soon shocked when Kim Pil-doo reveals, "The bad news is that you have to step down from your manager position."

When a bewildered Sung Jae-yeon asks for the reason, Kim Pil-doo responds, "Nam Joon-ho's wife pointed you out. I don't know why." Sung Jae-yeon, angered, questions, "Do you think that makes sense?" Kim Pil-doo tries to persuade her, saying, "The company needs Nam Joon-ho. Move to another department. If you're not a manager, you won't be a problem."

Sung Jae-yeon retorts, "The biggest problem is that there's no issue if I'm not a manager. I've endured six years at Han Entertainment." She continues, "The reason I stayed while others moved and got promoted was because of you, the CEO," expressing her sense of betrayal. Ultimately, Sung Jae-yeon decides to take a leave of absence.

Later, Sung Jae-yeon receives a call from Sun Woo-hae. She admits, "I called because I missed you," but hangs up after hearing another voice on the line, saying, "Hearing your voice is enough." Concerned, Sun Woo-hae goes to her house and calls her, asking, "I miss you, please come down."

Sung Jae-yeon confesses, "Today was really tough. Seeing your face makes me want to run to you, but it's not like before. If I were nineteen, I would have already run out." Sun Woo-hae comforts her, saying, "You've worked hard. Rest well." He adds, "That day, my mom said she liked you," which brings a subtle smile to Sung Jae-yeon's face. However, Sun Woo-hae, alone in his car, struggles with the pain of his incurable disease and practices confessing the truth to Sung Jae-yeon.

On the day of their date, as Sun Woo-hae leaves his house, he collapses and is taken to the hospital. Even in his semi-conscious state, he worries about Sung Jae-yeon, who waits for him in the rain and eventually goes to his house but doesn't find him. When Sun Woo-hae finally appears, he explains, "I left my phone at home and couldn't contact you." Sung Jae-yeon, relieved, says, "Seeing you reassures me. I imagined all sorts of things. Why aren't you using an umbrella?" and bursts into tears. She demands, "Promise me this won't happen again," but Sun Woo-hae replies, "I can't promise that. If this happens again, the end will be the same, so let's end it here," breaking up with her.
