Kim Da-mi revealed the behind-the-scenes of underwater filming for 'The Great Flood'.
On the 19th, an outdoor stage greeting for the film 'The Great Flood', invited to the 'Korean Cinema Today - Special Premiere' section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, was held at the Busan Cinema Center in Udong. Director Kim Byung-woo and actress Kim Da-mi attended the event.
'The Great Flood' is an SF disaster blockbuster that depicts the struggle of those who stake humanity's last hope on the final day of Earth, submerged by a great flood, as they fight for survival in a sinking apartment.
Kim Da-mi plays the role of Anna, an AI researcher. She explained, "Viewers might be curious about who Anna was initially. I wanted Anna's personality traits not to be too apparent. I aimed to show her transformation and growth as the story progresses."
Regarding the underwater filming, Kim Da-mi shared, "I practiced scuba diving and trained to become accustomed to movements underwater." She added, "I heard it was the first time in Korea, but there were scenes shot without water that looked like they were underwater. I learned how my face would appear and how to express myself underwater while filming."
Director Kim Byung-woo expressed his apologies, saying, "Even on days when Kim Da-mi wasn't supposed to be in the water, she was wet throughout the shoot. She had to live in a wet state for six months, which must have been uncomfortable and challenging." Kim Da-mi laughed, "Eventually, I got used to it and would go in and out of the pool as soon as I arrived at work in the morning."
'The Great Flood' is set to premiere on Netflix on December 19.
The 30th Busan International Film Festival runs from September 17 to 26 at the Busan Cinema Center.
