The upcoming Disney+ original historical drama series 'The Murky Stream' is set to showcase fresh performances from rising stars. Shin Ye-eun promises a departure from her usual roles, while Park Seo-ham has been preparing for his first historical drama with action and horseback riding training.
On the 18, the outdoor stage greeting for 'The Murky Stream', invited to the 'On Screen' section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), took place at the Busan Cinema Center in U-dong. Director Chu Chang-min and actors Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, Park Seo-ham, Park Ji-hwan, and Choi Gwi-hwa were in attendance.
Set to premiere on Disney+ on the 26, 'The Murky Stream' is an action drama centered around the turbulent world of Gyeonggang, where all the money and resources of Joseon converge. The series follows characters with different dreams striving to live with dignity.
Director Chu, making his drama debut, noted, "While there are many dramas featuring nobles, there are few that focus on the lower classes. The appeal lies in making handsome actors appear less so."
Rowoon described his character as "someone who shouldn't be named. The idea of having a home or a name implies a place to return to, but my character has none." When asked about the nature of his relationships with other characters, he humorously shouted, "Stay tuned!"
Shin Ye-eun shared, "I portray a strong woman navigating the world of commerce, meeting many characters, facing shocks, and overcoming challenges to achieve her goals." She hinted at a transformation from her previous roles, adding, "The director captured my natural purity, which is a key charm."
Park Seo-ham, tackling his first historical drama, revealed, "I spent a year training in action and horseback riding, learning from senior actors and my co-stars Rowoon and Ye-eun."
Park Ji-hwan, playing the leader of a gang, described his character as "seemingly in charge but also oppressed." He encouraged viewers to watch all scenes, while Choi Gwi-hwa, who plays an inspector, humorously noted, "There are two inspectors in 'The Murky Stream': the young and handsome Park Seo-ham and the older Choi Gwi-hwa." He added that his character's misdeeds enrich the drama.
Choi highlighted the drama's setting along the Han River, where various characters guard the docks, enriching the storyline. Park Ji-hwan humorously insisted, "You must watch because of Rowoon, Ye-eun, and 'universal star' Park Seo-ham. Just witnessing the director's work is enough. Gwi-hwa and I are just side dishes."
Park Seo-ham described 'The Murky Stream' as "a work filled with the scent of humanity, with the incredible performances of respected senior actors as a highlight." Director Chu added, "The drama showcases Park Seo-ham's martial arts training, Shin Ye-eun's natural beauty, Rowoon's impressive physique, and the exceptional acting of the entire cast."
