The trailer, released on September 25, showcases the unique directorial style and acting prowess of Yi and Koo, enhancing the visual appeal reminiscent of a Netflix film.
The Aespa members' acting skills have also caught attention, with Ningning and Giselle utilizing their native languages to highlight the group's multicultural strengths. Giselle, who previously impressed with her acting in the 'Drama' clip, is now being seen as a potential actress.
On September 26, Aespa revealed concept photos of Karina and Ningning transformed into rock band members, playing drums and synthesizer respectively. The title track 'Rich Man' is a dance song with a gritty electric guitar sound, aligning with the current trend of band music. This strategic move positions Aespa to capture the ongoing popularity of band sounds.
'Rich Man' marks Aespa's return two months after their single 'Dirty Work', which, despite charting consistently, did not match the success of previous hits like 'Supernova' and 'Whiplash'. Some fans expressed disappointment, citing the heavy sound as unsuitable for the summer heat. Additionally, Karina faced political controversy in May, which she addressed on the web show 'Yojongjae' a month later.
With this album, Aespa aims to shift the narrative. The trailer and concept photos hint at a bold new direction, supported by Yi Ok-seop and Koo Kyo-hwan's collaboration. The added band concept further piques interest in Aespa's upcoming transformation.
