G-DRAGON's world tour 'Übermensch' has hit a snag as the Bangkok concert, scheduled for August 2, has been abruptly canceled, raising concerns among fans.
On July 11, G-DRAGON announced on his official fan page, "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 'Übermensch' world tour concert in Bangkok scheduled for August 2 has been canceled." He added, "I sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience caused to everyone who was looking forward to the concert. I hope to meet my Thai fans again soon."
The concert was initially set to take place at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. Although ticket sales had not yet begun, preventing any refund issues, fans had already expressed dissatisfaction with the tour's management, making the cancellation a realization of their worst fears.
Particularly concerning was the choice of an outdoor venue during Thailand's rainy season, known for its extreme heat and heavy rainfall. With no ticketing information released even a month before the concert, fans had been voicing their frustrations, culminating in the concert's cancellation.
G-DRAGON's global fandom has been vocal about several issues, including the need for legal action against malicious rumors, a fair ticketing system prioritizing fan club members and local fans, reasonable tour management considering the artist's health and demand, advance notice of concert details, and a policy to prevent ticket resales. They also called for the agency's CEO to reduce public exposure and separate the brand from the artist.
A major grievance among fans is the lack of pre-sale benefits for paid fan club members. In some cases, VIP seats are allocated to external platforms first, leading international fans to question the value of joining the fan club.
Fans have also expressed dissatisfaction with the agency's efforts to protect the artist. Although Galaxy Corporation announced legal action against malicious posts in April, no updates have been provided in the three months since, leading fans to question the agency's commitment.
Additionally, fans have noted the frequent appearances of Galaxy Corporation's CEO, Choi Yong-ho, in G-DRAGON's official activities and the excessive use of the artist's name and image in promotional materials. Some fans are concerned that the agency is more focused on promoting its brand than supporting the artist.
Fans emphasize the urgent need for structural improvements within the agency to ensure a creative environment for the artist, protect his health, and restore trust with fans.
