Lee Dong-wook and Lee Sung-kyoung are set to captivate audiences as they team up in the upcoming drama 'The Nice Guy'.
Premiering on July 18th, 'The Nice Guy' will kick off JTBC's Friday series lineup. Directed by Song Hae-sung and Park Hong-soo, with a script by Kim Woon-kyoung and Kim Hyo-seok, the drama is produced by Hive Media Corp and High Ground. On June 30th, the production team released a couple poster featuring Park Seok-cheol (played by Lee Dong-wook) and Kang Mi-young (played by Lee Sung-kyoung).
'The Nice Guy' is an emotional noir that follows Park Seok-cheol, the eldest grandson of a gangster family with a surprisingly tender heart, and his first love, Kang Mi-young, who dreams of becoming a singer. The drama promises to deliver a poignant tale of love and dreams amidst harsh realities, offering both warm laughter and deep resonance.
The series is helmed by directors Song Hae-sung, known for films like 'Failan', 'Boomerang Family', and 'Maundy Thursday', and Park Hong-soo of the drama 'Lost'. Writers Kim Woon-kyoung, celebrated for works like 'Yuna's Street', 'Seoul's Moon', and 'The Blue Bird', and Kim Hyo-seok, known for the film 'Opposition', join forces to ensure a high-quality production.
Adding to the anticipation, 'The Nice Guy' marks the first drama by Hive Media Corp, a production company recognized for its solid planning and production capabilities in films such as 'Spring in Seoul', 'Opposition', 'The Man Standing Next', 'Deliver Us from Evil', and 'Inside Men'. The drama boasts a stellar cast including Lee Dong-wook, Lee Sung-kyoung, Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, Ryu Hye-young, and Chun Ho-jin, whose synergy is highly anticipated.
The newly released couple poster hints at the tender and thrilling romance between Park Seok-cheol and Kang Mi-young. The two characters, seemingly on the verge of a kiss, gaze at each other with eyes full of affection, raising viewers' heart rates. Reunited by fate, their rekindled first love promises to shake up their lives. The tagline, 'I met you when I had no dreams or hopes', teases a heart-wrenching romance where they become each other's sole salvation in a burdensome reality.
Lee Dong-wook transforms into 'Park Seok-cheol', a man who once dreamed of becoming a novelist like Hemingway but unwillingly became a gangster to make ends meet. As he decides to turn his life around, he fatefully reunites with his first love, Kang Mi-young, plunging him into another whirlwind of life. Lee Sung-kyoung plays 'Kang Mi-young', who, despite being battered by cold reality and suffering from stage fright, never gives up on her dream of becoming a singer. Her reunion with Park Seok-cheol becomes a turning point in her life.
The production team of 'The Nice Guy' stated, "The heart-wrenching romance that begins with the reunion of Park Seok-cheol and Kang Mi-young is a key highlight of the series. The richly layered narrative and deeply built emotional lines will evoke tender excitement," adding, "Look forward to the emotional melodrama synergy and acting transformations of Lee Dong-wook and Lee Sung-kyoung."
Meanwhile, JTBC's 'The Nice Guy' will premiere on July 18th at 8:50 PM and will air two consecutive episodes every Friday.
