Lee Dong-wook is set to captivate audiences with a warm yet poignant noir drama.
Premiering on July 18, JTBC's Friday series 'The Good Man' tells the story of Park Seok-cheol (played by Lee Dong-wook), the eldest grandson of a family of gangsters with a surprisingly tender heart, and his first love, Kang Mi-young (played by Lee Sung-kyung), who dreams of becoming a singer. The series explores their passionate love and their journey to pursue their dreams despite harsh realities.
Directed by Song Hae-sung, known for films like 'Failan', 'Boomerang Family', and 'Maundy Thursday', and Park Hong-soo, director of the drama 'Lost', the series is penned by writers Kim Woon-kyung ('Yuna's Street', 'Seoul's Moon') and Kim Hyo-seok ('Opposition'). The cast includes trusted actors such as Lee Dong-wook, Lee Sung-kyung, Park Hoon, Oh Na-ra, Ryu Hye-young, and Chun Ho-jin, promising an emotionally charged performance.
Recently, three character teaser videos were unveiled. The 'Noir' concept video offers a glimpse into the tumultuous life of Park Seok-cheol, a man with much to protect. His vacant gaze, as he rewraps a blood-stained bandage, shifts to one of intense determination, hinting at his ongoing battle to protect what he holds dear.
The 'Literature' concept video reveals Park Seok-cheol's unexpected literary side, inspired by novelist Hemingway. As he recites, "As long as the sun rises, there is hope," viewers are left wondering if a new dawn will rise for him, who has lived a life like a burning incandescent bulb.
In the integrated teaser, the contrasting life of Park Seok-cheol, who aspired to be a novelist but ended up as a gangster, is highlighted. The narration, "I chose the road less traveled, and that has made all the difference," raises curiosity about the choices that will shape his life.
Lee Dong-wook plays Park Seok-cheol, the reluctant heir to a gangster family. Despite his steadfastness, he decides to reclaim his life and pursue his childhood dream of becoming a writer like Hemingway. His fateful reunion with his first love, Kang Mi-young, promises to stir up his life once more.
'The Good Man' premieres on July 18 at 8:50 PM and will air two consecutive episodes every Friday.
