IU Donates $200,000 to Support Wildfire Victims and Firefighters


Singer and actress IU has stepped up to support wildfire victims.

The Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced on the 26th that IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-eun, has donated a total of 200 million KRW (approximately $200,000) to aid wildfire victims and improve the conditions and awareness of firefighters working in disaster zones.

IU expressed her condolences, stating, "I hope this can provide some relief to those affected, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims." She added, "I sincerely hope the wildfires are extinguished soon without further casualties." IU also expressed her gratitude to the firefighters, saying, "I deeply appreciate the dedication of the firefighters working tirelessly to control the fires."

IU has previously contributed to various disaster relief efforts, including aiding flood victims in 2020 and supporting the East Coast wildfire relief in 2022, showcasing her positive influence.

Shin Hoon, Secretary-General of Hope Bridge, commented, "IU's donation reflects a deep solidarity with those in need and gratitude towards those working behind the scenes." He assured that they would do their utmost to ensure her generous contribution reaches the affected areas and those on the ground.

Established in 1961 by media outlets and social organizations across Korea, the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association specializes in disaster relief fundraising. Its main activities include emergency disaster relief, fundraising and distribution of public donations, community recovery post-disaster, and support for vulnerable groups. To date, they have provided 1.6 trillion KRW in donations and over 60 million relief items.
