Veteran Actress Kim Soo-mi Passes Away at 75

Veteran actress Kim Soo-mi, born Kim Young-ok, passed away on the morning of the 25th at the age of 75. According to the Seocho Police Station in Seoul, Kim was found in a state of cardiac arrest at her home in Bangbae-dong, Seoul, around 8:08 AM and was transported to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No signs of foul play have been discovered, and her death is presumed to be due to an existing illness. Kim Soo-mi's memorial service will be held at Hanyang University Hospital from 2 PM onwards.

Born in 1949, Kim Soo-mi debuted as a third-generation talent through MBC in 1970. She gained fame for her role as 'Il-yong's Mother' in the rural drama 'Country Diary,' which aired from 1980 for 22 years. Her extensive career includes appearances in dramas such as 'Angry Eyes,' 'Dr. Oh's People,' 'The Youth of the Sun,' 'You Are the Only One,' 'Something Happened in Bali,' the sitcom 'Hello Franceska,' and films like 'Mapado' and the 'Marrying the Mafia' series. Known for her culinary skills, she also appeared in cooking shows like 'Soo-mi's Side Dishes' and ventured into the food business. From 2022 until September this year, she appeared in the tvN STORY variety show 'Chairman's People.' Last year, she starred in the film 'Marrying the Mafia: Returns,' and until May this year, she performed in the play 'Mother's Home.' Despite her recent active career, Kim Soo-mi was beloved for her warm and approachable image. However, she had been on a hiatus since May due to health issues, having been hospitalized in May and July. In September, she appeared on a home shopping channel to promote kimchi from her business, where her swollen face and labored breathing raised concerns about her health.

She is survived by her husband, Jung Chang-kyu, daughter Jung Joo-ri, son Jung Myung-ho, and daughter-in-law, actress Seo Hyo-rim.
