Kang Dong-won Takes on First Servant Role in Netflix Film 'Uprising'

Kang Dong-won has revealed that he will be playing a servant role for the first time in the Netflix film 'Uprising'.

On the 10th, a production briefing for the Netflix movie 'Uprising' was held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Sang-man and actors Kang Dong-won, Park Jung-min, Cha Seung-won, Kim Shin-rok, and Jung Sung-il attended the event.

Set against the backdrop of the Imjin War, 'Jeon, Ran' tells the story of Jong-ryeo (played by Park Jung-min), the son of the most prestigious military family in Joseon, and Cheon-young (played by Kang Dong-won), a servant, who reunite as adversaries when they become King Seonjo's (played by Cha Seung-won) closest military officer and a volunteer soldier, respectively.

Kang Dong-won takes on the role of Cheon-young, a servant with the best swordsmanship skills despite his lowly status.

Kang Dong-won shared, “I found the script very interesting. It had a different point compared to existing movie scripts. The character dynamics and individual stories were well integrated. Usually, movies focus on the protagonist due to time constraints, but this one included each character's story. It was a traditional historical drama with modern elements.”

Regarding his character Cheon-young, he explained, “He was born as a commoner but becomes a servant due to the system at the time. He is a character who does not accept his status and fate but strives to pioneer his own path. He is naturally gifted as a swordsman. He does not settle for being a servant and struggles to find his own life.” He added with a smile, “Personally, I was happy to take on a servant role for the first time.”

'Uprising' will be available on Netflix starting the 11th.
