Actor Im Si-wan takes on his second villain role in the Netflix movie 'I Just Dropped My Smartphone.'
Im Si-wan received a 0% viewership rating for his previous drama ‘I Don’t Want to Do Anything’. From the middle of the drama, it went back and forth, with viewership ratings being released or not. 'I Don't Want to Do Anything', which started with a viewer rating of 0.633%, rose to 1.2%, but the final viewer rating results were not disclosed.
Im Si-wan, who failed to leave an impact with his chemistry with Kim Seol-hyun, overcomes the humiliation of '0% viewer ratings' and takes on the role of a villain for the second time, showing a different face from his previous work. Im Si-wan will appear in the movie 'I Just Dropped My Smartphone', which will be released on Netflix on the 17th.
'I Just Dropped My Smartphone' is a realistic thriller that unfolds when an ordinary office worker loses his smartphone containing all his personal information and his entire daily life begins to be threatened. In the play, Siwan plays Junyoung. Junyoung is a man who approaches Na-mi (played by Chun Woo-hee) after accidentally picking up her smartphone. Im Si-wan portrays the cold-eyed Joon-young, a character who commits gruesome crimes using a smartphone.
This is not Siwan's first time playing a villain. This is because he attempted his first villain role in the movie ‘Emergency Declaration’ (director Han Jae-rim), which was released last year. 'Emergency Declaration' took a direct hit to the performance due to negative public opinion. Although it raised expectations as a summer tentpole, it became a so-called reverse viral hit. Accordingly, the distributor Showbox filed a criminal complaint.
‘Emergency Declaration’ recorded a cumulative audience of 2.05 million. It was far from the break-even point (5 million people). Although there were likes and dislikes about the movie among the audience, the acting of Im Si-wan, who tried his hand at playing a villain for the first time, was met with favorable reviews. In particular, Siwan's crazy eyes stood out.
In relation to this, Im Si-wan said, "They called me 'a child with a lot of eyes.' I think that kind of comment sticks in my memory. I think of it as a compliment. My eyes don't usually turn around. In this work, it just came out as if my eyes were turning due to a lighting problem. For me, "I didn't turn a blind eye to it at all. I think it was because the lights weren't installed, but I'm grateful that they still looked at me favorably as a character," he said.
Im Si-wan's first villain role left an impact even though it was short. Im Si-wan plans to show off his tenacity in digging up everything about Nami in detail through Jun-young. Jun-young's appearance, which contrasts with Im Si-wan's straight appearance, is expected to provide a chilling and chilling feeling of fear as it is contrary to his well-known appearance to the public. Attention is being paid to what the face of Im Si-wan's second attempt as a villain will be like.
