Choi Soo-jong returns to historical drama after 10 years with 'Goryeo Khitan War'

Actor Choi Soo-jong is making a comeback after 10 years with a new epic drama, a special project commemorating the 50th anniversary of KBS public broadcasting.

KBS' new epic drama 'Goryeo-Khitan War' (working title) tells the story of Emperor Hyeonjong of Goryeo, who united Goryeo with tolerant leadership and led the war against the Khitan to victory, and Gang Gam-chan, his political mentor and commander-in-chief of the Goryeo army. Choi Soo-jong plays the role of General Kang Gam-chan and gives a passionate performance.

Gang Gam-chan was a 70-year-old civil servant, but he was a hero who gained the trust of King Hyeonjong, the 8th king of Goryeo, and led the victory in the Battle of Gwiju, a battle where the fate of the country depended.

This is Choi Soo-jong's first appearance in a historical drama 10 years after 'The Great King's Dream', which aired in 2012. The expectations of viewers who have been waiting for the KBS historical drama are growing due to the sudden comeback of Choi Soo-jong, who led the heyday of KBS historical dramas through numerous works such as 'The Great King's Dream', 'Daejoyeong', 'God of the Sea', and 'Taejo Wang Geon'.

'Goryeo-Khitan War' is a work that captures the 26-year war between the new nation of Goryeo and the Khitan Empire, the most powerful nation of the time, and the complete victory of General Gang Gam-chan, the protagonist of the Battle of Guizhou, who ended the suffering.

It is expected to present an answer to us today through what Goryeo achieved through its victory in the war and the way King Hyeonjong wisely led the country through difficult times.

We plan to vividly convey the spectacular and fierce scenes of large-scale battlefields to home theaters, inform our country's history to viewers around the world through content that captures the true image of Goryeo, and show the origins of 'KOREA'.

Producer Jeon Woo-sung, who directed 'Your House Helper' and 'The Strongest Delivery Man', and producer Kim Han-sol, who worked with Choi Soo-jong on 'Imjin War 1592', co-directed. Writer Lee Jeong-woo, who wrote 'Taejong Lee Bang-won', 'The Strongest Deliveryman', and 'Joseon Gunman', was in charge of the screenplay.

KBS Public Broadcasting's 50th anniversary special special epic drama 'Goryeo Khitan War' is being prepared for production with the goal of airing in the second half of this year.
