Actor Lee Byung-hun (52) and BH Entertainment received an irregular (special) tax investigation from the National Tax Service and a fine was incurred, but they explained that it was not related to tax evasion or real estate investment.
A BH Entertainment official explained to Ten Asia on the 28th, "The reason for the surcharge was due to a problem with the timing of advertising guarantee deposit," adding, "Because part of the guarantee was deposited separately and the year changed, it was excluded from accounting management." In addition, he added, "Actor Lee Byung-hun once gave an employee bonus with his own money, and this occurred during the normalization phase of accounting for the portion that was treated as a company expense."
Aju Business News reported on this day that Lee Byung-hun and BH Entertainment were subject to an irregular tax investigation and had to collect hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes, and that the reason behind this was that they had invested in real estate using a corporation.
Lee Byung-hun is said to have made a profit of around 10 billion won by purchasing a 10-story building in Yangpyeong-dong through Projectbee Co., Ltd., a corporation where his mother Park is an executive director, and selling it in 2021. However, an official drew a line, saying, “The investment in this building is not related to this National Tax Service surcharge.”
Lee Byung-hun has finished filming the Netflix movie 'Victory' (directed by Kim Hyung-joo), in which he appeared with Yoo Ah-in, and the movie 'Concrete Utopia' (directed by Eom Tae-hwa), in which he starred with Park Seo-joon and Park Bo-young, and is about to be released. He will also appear in Season 2 of the popular Netflix series ‘Squid Game’.
