Jo Seung-woo of 'Sacred, Divorced' revealed that he focused on emotional acting during the piano playing scene.
On the 2nd, an online production presentation for JTBC's new Saturday-Sunday drama 'Sacred, Divorce' was held. Director Lee Jae-hoon and actors Cho Seung-woo, Han Hye-jin, Kim Sung-gyun, and Jeong Moon-seong attended.
Cho Seung-woo played the role of Shin Seong, who lived as a pianist and music professor before taking the bar exam and becoming a divorce lawyer. Han Hye-jin played the role of Lee Seo-jin, a weathercaster-turned-radio DJ who is emotionally abused by her husband. Kim Sung-gyun played Jang Hyeon-geun, Shin Shin's friend since middle school and the office manager of Shin Seong's lawyer's office. Moon-seong Jeong appears as Jo Jeong-sik, the president of Jo Jeong-sik Real Estate and a friend of Shin Seong-sik and Hyun-geun Jang.
Regarding the character who was an artist, Seungwoo Cho said, “I asked the writer for that setting. Unlike the way prosecutor Hwang Si-mok ('Secret Forest') approaches when he takes on a case, he is a former pianist and music professor, so when he takes on a lawsuit or case, he approaches the process musically, as if he were playing music. “I suggested that we approach it as if we were interpreting sheet music,” he said. He continued, “Shin Seong-han has deep scars, but he has deep humanity and respect for people. “He is a warm person,” he said. “He has the charm of being a person who knows how to be considerate and respectful of others even when he is in charge of a case.”
Since Cho Seung-woo was a pianist in the play, how did he prepare for the piano performance scene? Seungwoo Cho said, “There was no specific reference. The setting itself is not a completely genius pianist. I like music and the piano, and because I was wealthy when I was young, I studied abroad for more than 20 years, but after an incident, I gave up music, returned to Korea, and entered the legal field. I stay away from the piano, but at some point, when I feel emotional, I play the piano. Of course, a double played the piano. I am on my way. The teacher told me to focus more on my emotions, saying that if I really wanted to learn, I wouldn't be able to act because I would be thinking about it. I watched the stunt double and focused only on the path the hand took and the feeling. “Honestly, I was acting emotionally in the scene where I was playing the piano,” he explained. He continued, “Of course, I looked up a lot of videos. Aren’t there many outstanding people such as Seong-jin Cho and Teacher Yun-chang Lim? I watched the video, but I couldn't follow along. So I made my own. I developed a habit and there were some things I caught while watching my stunt double. “I listened to a lot of music,” he said.
'Divorce Shin' is a delightful human drama that depicts divorce requests beyond imagination faced by Shin Shin, an artist-turned-divorce lawyer, and the heartwarming chemistry between three friends who are perfect friends. It will be aired for the first time at 10:30 pm on the 4th.
