Actor Jeon Jong-seo re-enters Cannes for the first time in five years.
Jeon Jong-seo was invited to the full-length feature competition section of the '6th Cannes International Series Festival' to be held in Cannes, France from April 14th to 19th through TVING's original series 'Ransom'.
'Ransom' is a short film directed by Lee Chung-hyun that tells the story of three people who were bargaining over each other's 'ransom' and become trapped in a building that collapsed due to an earthquake, and then start a dangerous deal to seize their last chance. It is based on the movie ‘Ransom’.
As of the first week of release in October last year, it not only achieved the highest viewing UV (number of unique visitors) among all TVing original works, but also ranked first in both the number of weekly paid subscription contributors and viewing UV for two consecutive weeks, and ranked 3rd among TVing original dramas released last year. It received an enthusiastic response, recording the highest completion rate based on parking.
In the play, Jeon Jong-seo plays the role of Park Joo-young, a ransom negotiation expert who is not picky about the target, and plays a character struggling to survive in a chaos completely cut off from the outside world. It provided fresh shock and fun by constantly lying to survive or removing obstacles in front of you without hesitation.
In particular, Jeon Jong-seo debuted in director Lee Chang-dong's film 'Burning' in 2018 and entered the '71st Cannes International Film Festival', and then re-entered Cannes five years later through 'Ransom', becoming the first Korean actor to appear in a film and series. He achieved the feat of being invited to all categories, proving his presence as an irreplaceable actor.
In addition, Jeon Jong-seo received global attention through the film 'Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon', which was his Hollywood debut and was released in Korea on the 22nd and was a standout at leading film festivals such as the Venice International Film Festival, Sitges Film Festival, and Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival. Expectations are high as to what kind of presence it will reveal at the '6th Cannes International Series Festival'.
