Actors Lee Ha-nui, Lee Sun-kyun, and Gong Myung showed a 'weird fairy tale' that broke the formula of existing comedy or romance films through the movie 'Killing Romance'.

On the afternoon of the 10th, a press screening for the movie ‘Killing Romance’ (directed by Lee Won-seok) was held at the Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Won-seok, Lee Ha-nui, and Lee Sun-gyun attended the press conference held after the preview.

‘Killing Romance’ is the story of top star Yeorae (played by Lee Ha-nui) who suddenly announces her retirement after falling in fateful love with island tycoon Jonathan (played by Lee Seon-gyun). Yeorae meets Beom-woo (played by Gong Myeong), a student from the third group of her fan club, as her next-door neighbor, and plots her own extraordinary comeback plan.

Director Won-seok Lee, who directed 'Men's Manual', and Jeong-ye Park, writer of 'Beauty Inside', began their work under the motto of "Let's create something that has never existed in the world." As the title is 'Killing Romance', the formula of romance genre films was excluded and a story close to anti-romance was completed.

Director Lee Won-seok, who is about to release the film, opened his speech by saying, “I am so, so nervous.” He went back to the starting point of ‘Killing Romance’ and told the story. Director Lee said, "When I first received the script for 'Killing Romance' from writer Park Jeong-ye, I said I would do a comedy about killing a husband. I liked the inconsistent rhythm of the story in the script, and I thought it would be fun, so I started it."

Director Lee Won-seok said that he used a lot of director Lee Byung-hun's movie 'Wind, Wind, Wind' as a reference. Regarding the topic of killing her husband, she said, "To be honest, it's an unfunny subject, and it's a movie that can't be made into a comedy in our country," but said that she started making this movie after being inspired by director Lee Byung-hun, who tried various types of comedy.

He continued, "There may be scenes that are uncomfortable to watch," and explained, "I tried to bury the violence as much as possible. I should say it's a fairy tale setting. I tried to tone it down as much as possible."

Lee Ha-nui plays Yeorae, a retired top star who dreams of a spectacular screen comeback. He is capable of both comedy and singing. Lee Ha-nui shared her thoughts on this work, saying, "Comedy is difficult because the timing has to be right and you have to have good sense. From an actor's perspective, I think you always have to be sincere and not fake. I think you can't joke around when it comes to comedy."

The reason Lee Ha-nui chose ‘Killing Romance’ was because of laughter. Lee Ha-nui said, "I should say it was real laughter when I read it in the book. I burst out laughing a lot. I was very curious about how it would come out when it came out in the world as a live-action movie. I started with that in mind."

In the play, Lee Ha-nui sings songs such as ‘Tathagataism’ and ‘Please’. ‘Tathagataism’ is a parody of singer Rain’s hit song ‘Rainism’. Lee Ha-nui received help from Rain to create ‘Tathagataism.’ Lee Ha-nui said, "The lyrics of 'Tathagataism' sung in the movie had to be 'Bad Girl' and not 'Bad Boy', so we had to re-record it. He did it very willingly. He did it completely without compensation. To the loyal 'World Star' “I bow my head in gratitude,” he said, expressing his gratitude.

Seon-kyun Lee, who plays Jonathan Na, an icon of madness and obsession, said, "I thought the script was strange when I first saw it. I enjoyed the series of unusual and unusual scenes. I watched Director Won-seok Lee's previous work 'Men's Manual' well, and the addition of the director's directing created a synergy. “I decided because I thought there might be a place there,” he said, explaining the reason for his appearance.

Seon-kyun Lee said, "I think the audience will be puzzled for the first 20 minutes or so, thinking, 'What is this?' I also acted, but there was a song sequence that was embarrassing and unexpected. I enjoyed it from the Bulgamma scene where the three meet in earnest. “I think you can enjoy it if you look at it with an open mind about the initial doubt,” he said.

Sun-kyun Lee said, "I don't think I played Jonathan thinking he was a villain. Of course, he made it difficult for someone, but I didn't mean to look bad. The tone and manner of the movie was cartoon-like and cute, so I played him thinking he was a villain who could be cute. “He said.

Meanwhile, 'Killing Romance' will be released on the 14th.
