Interview with Lee Ha-nui as Yeorae in the movie ‘Killing Romance’
Actress Lee Ha-nui mentioned her daughter.
Lee Ha-nui told various stories about the movie ‘Killing Romance’ (directed by Lee Won-seok) at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 14th.
'Killing Romance' is about top star Yeorae (played by Lee Ha-nui), who suddenly announces her retirement after falling in love with island tycoon Jonathan (played by Lee Seon-gyun), and meets Beom-woo (played by Gong Myeong), a student from the 3rd fan club, and plots an extraordinary comeback plan. It's a story.
In the play, Lee Ha-nui plays the role of Tathagata. Tathagata is a retired top star who dreams of a brilliant screen comeback. She meets Jonathan Na by chance, falls in love with him, and suddenly retires as soon as he gets married.
On this day, Lee Ha-nui said, "Comedy acting is the most difficult. It is difficult to match the tone, and the tone and timing that the director thinks must match. That is why it is so difficult. The tone timing and breathing that match the texture of the lines must be perfect to make someone laugh." "Some things have to be done indifferently, and some things have to be done with precise intent. Sometimes it's the batting average that's right, but sometimes it's not," he began.
He said, "It's difficult because you have to control the level and send it out smoothly without being excessive. There is another tension. A scene that shows emotions in a passionate way requires high-level skills, but comedy is also a difficult genre unless you have an innate sense of other genres. “There are some things you have to do not to become dull,” he said.
He continued, "Senior Sungyun also has a really innate sense of comedy. I thought he was a good actor when I saw that. I've never done comedy before, but it's funny to see him in private. He's cheerful and has a heart that wants to make others laugh. First of all, if you want to do comedy, you have to have that heart. It has to be there. Doesn’t senior Yoo Hae-jin keep hitting it? I think the quality and virtue of a comedy actor is that he has the desire to make someone laugh, regardless of whether the batting average is right or not. Senior Seon-kyun was like that too. I still think comedy is a very, very difficult genre. “I think,” he confessed.
When you think of Honey Lee, an image of comedy naturally comes to mind. The dramas ‘The Fiery Priest’, ‘Won the Woman’ and the movie ‘Extreme Job’. Regarding this, Lee Ha-nui said, "I think it's because many people remember me for the image of me smiling brightly. I also like comedy. I think I'm a person with a lot of positive energy. I use negative energy when I need to, but basically I don't like being in negative energy. As much as possible. “I like to smile. I don’t like to just stare,” he said.
Lee Ha-nui married a non-celebrity in 2021 and gave birth to a daughter last year. ‘Killing Romance’ is a movie Lee Ha-nui filmed before she got married. Lee Ha-nui, who revealed that she is still newlywed, said, "It's different when you don't know what marriage is like. Marriage has a stigma and a lock on it, so it would be difficult if I met someone like Jonathan. I have to take responsibility for the choices I made, and I can divorce even if it doesn't work out, but I'll do my best." “Shouldn’t we do everything? If the person who is most important in the house, not the person on the outside, acts with such violence and abuses us like that, I think life itself would be very difficult.”
Lee Ha-nui said, "I think the most important thing is to recognize when you meet someone who gaslights you. I try to protect myself. It's a bit hard to express it this way, but there is also good gaslighting. It would be good to learn and be influenced by that person's good thoughts and beliefs. “But it seems like they use gaslighting words when things are not right.”
Also, "In some ways, Jonathan is both a perpetrator and a victim. I asked my daughter, 'Mom, don't you love me?' Saying things like ‘I love you, always and unconditionally’ is at the level of gaslighting. I hope my daughter will say those words someday. I think saying things like ‘I love you, always and unchanging’ and ‘I love you, always and unchanging’ is gaslighting in a good way.” He said.
Meanwhile, 'Killing Romance', starring Lee Ha-nui, was released on this day.
