Jeon Jong-seo's 'Ransom' wins Cannes International Series Screenplay Award


TVING's original 'Ransom' won the Best Screenplay award in the feature film competition at the Cannes International Series Festival.

According to TVING on the 20th, 'Ransom' received the honor of winning Best Screenplay in the feature-length competition category at the closing ceremony of the 6th Cannes International Series Festival held at the Grand Theater Lumière in Cannes, France on the 19th (local time). With this, 'Ransom' recorded new history as the first Korean drama and the first domestic OTT original series to win the Cannes Series.

Director Jeon Woo-sung, who stood on the podium to receive the award for Best Original Screenplay, said, "'Ransom' is a work with a very unique concept, and it is an honor for you to recognize and invite me," and added, "I am so grateful for the award. (Co-screenwriters) Byung Yun-ah and Jae-min. “Ah! We did it!” he said.

'Ransom' attracted attention early on as the only K content among the works invited to the competition section of this year's Cannes Series. At the official screening held at the Lumière Grand Theater in Cannes, France on the 16th, the audience who filled the 2,300 seats gave a standing ovation for about 3 minutes and praised the work. Major foreign media outlets that attended the interview, including Le Figaro and Panorama, also expressed keen interest by analyzing the charm of the work from various angles, from the work's unconventional concept to the game-like composition to the passionate performances of the actors who made the villain characters shine.
