It’s difficult to escape the slump in Korean movies.

The American action film 'John Wick 4' and the Japanese animation 'Suzume's Lockdown' are on the verge of exceeding 1 million and 5 million viewers, respectively.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated computer network for movie theater admissions on the 21st, the movie 'John Wick 4' (directed by Chad Stahelski) attracted 41,361 viewers on the 20th and topped the box office for 9 consecutive days since its release. The cumulative number of viewers is 915,156 and is expected to easily surpass 1 million viewers this coming weekend.

‘Suzume’s Door Break’ (Director Makoto Shinkai) is looking at 5 million viewers. ‘Suzume’s Lockdown’ was viewed by 14,449 people on the same day. The cumulative number of viewers is 4,765,000. Director Makoto Shinkai, who promised to visit Korea again when the number exceeds 3 million, plans to meet Korean audiences from the 27th to the 29th.

In particular, 'Suzume's Lockdown' is riding a wave of momentum, ranking first in box office among domestically released films in 2023 and also ranked first in box office among Japanese films ever released domestically.

Following ‘John Wick 4’ and ‘Suzume,’ Korean films ranked 3rd to 5th. It's a situation where it's hard to get out of the slump.

Third place went to ‘Rebound’ (Director Jang Hang-jun). On the 20th, 11,303 viewers watched, bringing the cumulative number of viewers to 527,919. The horror film ‘Oksu Station Ghost’ (directed by Jeong Yong-gi), based on the webtoon of the same name, was seen by 9,682 audiences on the same day, with a total of 24,434. 5th place was taken by ‘Killing Romance’ (director Won-seok Lee).
