Actors Song Joong-ki, Hong Sa-bin, and Kim Hyeong-seo (BB) expressed their feelings about being invited to the 'Un Certain Regard' section of the 76th Cannes International Film Festival for the movie 'The Hwaran' (directed by Kim Chang-hoon).
Song Joong-ki, Hong Sa-bin, and Kim Hyeong-seo shared their thoughts on being officially invited to the Cannes International Film Festival through PlusM Entertainment, the distributor of 'Hwaran', on the 21st. 'Hwaran' is a noir drama depicting the story of a boy, Yeon-gyu (played by Hong Sa-bin), who wants to escape from the hellish reality, meets the middle boss of an organization, Chi-geon (played by Song Joong-ki), and ends up in a dangerous world together.
'Dwarf' achieved the feat of being officially invited to the 'Un Certain Regard' section of the 76th Cannes International Film Festival, which opens on May 16. In particular, new actors Hong Sa-bin, Song Joong-ki, and Kim Hyeong-seo are entering the Cannes International Film Festival for the first time, creating a hot topic.
Hong Sa-bin, who will radiate explosive energy through the role of Yeon-gyu, an 18-year-old boy with no one to rely on in a hellish reality, said about advancing to Cannes as his first film as a lead actor, "It is an honor to be able to invite the film 'Hwaran' to the Cannes Film Festival. And it is a wonderful film. "I am also very honored and grateful to be a part of the film festival. I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff members who worked hard until the film festival was announced," he said.
Song Joong-ki, who plays Cheegan, the middle boss of an organization who lives in his own way in a hellish world, is also attracting attention with his entry into Cannes. Song Joong-ki, who attempted a powerful acting transformation never seen before through 'Hwaran', said, "I am honored and excited. 'Hwaran' was a scene where all the actors and staff's hot and pure passion gathered together. A work that was made with great intensity under the given environment was performed on the world stage. “I am happy to be showing it for the first time. My joy is doubled by the thought that the audience will soon be able to feel the intensity I felt when I first saw the script. I will fully enjoy it as it is a festival for filmmakers,” he said.
Kim Hyeong-seo, who played the role of Hayan, Yeon-gyu's younger brother who tries not to be shaken by the miserable reality, with bold yet strong eyes and acting, said, "It's so amazing. I feel like I'm just passing on what the director and actors Song Joong-ki and Hong Sa-bin have done well, but I'm so, so thankful. “I will do my best,” he said.
The notable point to which 'The Netherlands' was invited is the official section of the Cannes International Film Festival, a section that discovers talented young directors and introduces original and aesthetically outstanding works. Previously, director Bong Joon-ho's 'Mother' (2009) and director Na Hong-jin's 'Yellow Sea' (2010) were invited.
Director Kim Chang-hoon of 'Dwarf' achieved the feat of being officially invited to the Cannes International Film Festival with his debut feature film. He said, "I am truly grateful to the actors and production staff who devoted themselves to this film, and I am truly happy and fortunate that their hard work can shine. I have always wanted to participate in the dream festival of every filmmaker since I was a child." “I am truly grateful to be able to do this,” he said.
Meanwhile, 'Hwaran' is scheduled to be released in Korea this year.
