The ‘59th Baeksang Arts Awards’ will be held on the 28th (today). This is because terrestrial works cannot be found for not only the Best Drama Picture, but also the Best Directing and Best Acting Awards.
Candidates for the 'Baeksang Arts Awards' were selected through a preliminary survey by professional evaluators and a review process by judges in each category. The subjects of review are content provided on terrestrial broadcasting, general programming, cable, OTT, and the web from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, Korean feature films released in Korea during the same period, and plays performed. A preliminary survey was conducted with 60 industry expert evaluators.
The big difference last year was that the OTT series was particularly strong. Additionally, terrestrial broadcast works are rarely found among the candidates.
In particular, the Netflix 'The Glory' team is aiming to win multiple awards by receiving 9 nominations in 8 categories at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Another multiple winner candidate is ENA's 'Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo', which was nominated for 10 nominations in 8 categories.
Lee Sung-min, Kim Shin-rok, and Kim Do-hyun are among the members of the 'Chaebol Family's Youngest Son' family, which recorded the highest viewer ratings for a non-terrestrial drama last year. Song Joong-ki was not nominated for the Best Male Actor Award.
In addition, Coupang Play's 'Anna', JTBC's 'My Liberation Diary', and Disney+'s 'Casino' were included.
In this situation, terrestrial dramas are a total disaster. KBS' 'Taejo Lee Bang-won', 'Love According to the Law', and MBC's 'Big Mouth', which received the grand prize at the 2022 Drama Awards, were not included.
The '59th Baeksang Arts Awards' will be broadcast live simultaneously on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4 and digitally broadcast on TikTok.
