Myung Se-bin, JTBC 'Doctor Cha Jeong-sook' End Interview
"Marriage? I want to do it if I have a good person. I even prayed for a spouse with Uhm Jung-hwa. It's late, but it's not over."
Actress Myung Se-bin, who turned 49 this year, revealed her thoughts on marriage. Divorced in 2008, after five months of marriage, but Myung Se-bin is unmarried on paper because he did not register his marriage. In a recent entertainment show, he revealed that he had an egg freezing procedure 10 years ago, and honestly confessed his thoughts on remarriage, saying, "It feels like I came out of an egg. It's uncomfortable, but it's not a flaw, and I'm not ashamed."
In the JTBC Friday-Saturday drama 'Doctor Cha Jeong-suk', which ended on the 4th, Myung Se-bin played the role of Choi Seung-hee, a talented family medicine specialist and the affair partner of Seo In-ho (Kim Byung-cheol), and portrayed complex emotions convincingly. Myung Se-bin, who succeeded in acting as an adulterous woman character after breaking the image of first love, was praised for causing a 'sadness' that cannot be hated just like an anger-inducing 'villain'.
Myung Se-bin said, "I thought it was natural to be criticized. Being an adulterous woman is not a good image", but "I wanted to show the life of a person named Choi Seung-hee rather than a simple adulterous woman. I wanted to do it. I focused on Seung-hee's misaligned and scarred life. I didn't hide because she was an adulterous woman, but I thought there had to be a solid reason for why she made that choice."
"The director said that because I played the role of Choi Seung-hee, the delivery was better and I looked more sincere. It's because I didn't have an ordinary adulterous woman image. I think that's why people could think more about Seung-hee's position."
In the play, Choi Seung-hee is born into a good family, has a beautiful appearance and outstanding abilities, but is married to Cha Jeong-suk (Uhm Jung-hwa) and has an affair with her first love, Seo In-ho (Kim Byung-cheol). Regarding this, Myung Se-bin said, “Although they didn’t express themselves much in the drama, I wonder if Choi Seung-hee and Seo In-ho had a feeling of being like soul mates beyond the feelings of first love. He was the first person. And didn't that first love abandon himself because he had a one night stand with another woman and had a child? That must have been a trauma Choi Seung-hee couldn't handle."
She continued, "I was trying to live my own life in America, but I met In-ho by chance and got pregnant. As a woman, I don't think I could have made a decision right away if I thought I could get rid of this child. After going through it, time must have passed, and I would have wanted to feel that child like the line 'I missed you', and since he was a person who had a great lack of family, I wonder if he had a strong desire to create a family of his own."
If it had been Myung Se-bin, would he have made the same choice as Choi Seung-hee? He said, "I don't know either. Because I have a different mindset when I'm in Korea and when I'm abroad. It can be emotional, right? It's a little regretful that I chose to go to the US and meet again. If it were me, I think I would have put on the brakes without meeting in the first place." said.
Myung Se-bin said that 'Doctor Cha Jeong-suk' was the first pre-produced drama after debut. He said, "It was a bit frustrating and difficult because it was my first character in pre-production. I couldn't tell if it was well expressed or if it went well for the character Choi Seung-hee. So I tried harder and did my best." I got to do it from the point of view of the viewer. When watching the broadcast, I opened the script and monitored it. It was a new experience," he was satisfied with.
When asked about working with Uhm Jung-hwa, Myung Se-bin said, "I first went to Uhm Jung-hwa with the script and asked her to tell me what she thought of Seung-hee. That was a good opportunity to open up. It turns out that they are both Christians. “The scenes are extremely confrontational, but after the filming was over, it became a relationship where we said, ‘Let’s pray.’ There was mutual support that we should do well together. It was nice to be able to match. I think it was a good meeting," he expressed his gratitude.
Coincidentally, Myung Se-bin, Uhm Jung-hwa, and Kim Byeong-cheol are all single. Only Min Woo-hyuk, who plays Roy Kim, is married for 12 years. Myung Se-bin said of Min Woo-hyuk, "He has a charm that many women would like. He likes to exercise, and he is homely and sweet."
There is also a group chat room for four people. Myung Se-bin said, "Since everyone is old, group chat rooms aren't active. I watch dramas, give and receive moderate reviews, share good news, and ask to meet up for a meal. Actor Kim Byeong-cheol is an introvert, so he usually answers. I'm not sure if there are any group chat rooms without me." laughed
In the play, the bracelet Seo In-ho gave to Choi Seung-hee and Cha Jeong-sook is a sponsored product. Myung Se-bin explained, "It came out as a luxury bracelet, but it's not that expensive."
Myung Se-bin said that Choi Seung-hee's ending was not about leaving for the United States, but was very good. I think the story of Choi Seung-hee's growth is contained in 'Doctor Cha Jeong-sook'."
Myung Se-bin, who appeared on the KBS variety show 'Pyeon Restaurant' and showed off her outstanding cooking skills, garnered attention. He said, "I've been looking for healthy food more and more. To become an actor, I need to develop my physical strength, so I'm working hard on my condition." When asked if it was the secret to healthy eating, Myung Se-bin explained, "I don't choose what I eat. Eating good food definitely calms down my skin. My skin is sensitive because it's weak, but it has gradually decreased."
In addition, Myung Se-bin said, "I can't drink or smoke. If I eat alcohol and food together, I get full and the food tastes bad, so alcohol isn't attractive to me." Sometimes, I set the mood with wine and champagne. When filming is too difficult, drinking a glass of beer is relaxing."
"How long will I be innocent? People don't only have innocence, there are many sides to them. I want to express them all. I don't want to be trapped in my image."
