Kong Seung-yeon Shines in '21st Century Grand Princess' with Riveting Performance

In episodes 5 and 6, aired on the 24th and 25th, MBC's Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Princess' showcased a dramatic turn of events. After a car accident involving Seong Hee-joo (played by IU) and her son Yoon, the marriage of Grand Prince Ian (played by Byun Woo-seok) was halted. Yoon Yi-rang (played by Kong Seung-yeon), who was used by Grand Prince Ian, faced a crisis but ultimately launched a counterattack, turning the tables.

Upon hearing about Yoon's accident, Yi-rang rushed to the hospital and was relieved to find her son not seriously injured. Her maternal instincts were evident as she worried deeply. Despite agreeing to Grand Prince Ian's request to invite Seong Hee-joo to a banquet she was hosting, Yi-rang managed to secure approval for Yoon's marriage, showcasing her inner turmoil.

Grand Prince Ian pressured Yi-rang by revealing he knew about past changes to the late king's will. In response, Yi-rang hinted at another scheme, telling her father Yoon Seong-won (played by Jo Jae-yoon), "Seong Hee-joo could be the prince's weakness, so it's best to keep her within reach."

Towards the end of the episode, Yi-rang arranged a dinner with Seong Hee-joo, warning Grand Prince Ian not to obstruct Yoon's future. Her unexpected counterattack, which included touching on past wounds inflicted by Ian on her father, heightened the tension. Yi-rang's strategic moves to achieve her goals left viewers on the edge of their seats.

Throughout this process, Kong Seung-yeon delivered an immersive performance, embodying her character completely. Her portrayal of Yi-rang's constant vigilance against Grand Prince Ian and Seong Hee-joo, along with her nuanced expressions and emotional shifts, vividly captured Yi-rang's anger and emotions. Audiences are keen to see if Kong Seung-yeon can elevate her son Yoon to the pinnacle of power, surpassing Grand Prince Ian and Seong Hee-joo.
