Kwon So-hyun Shines Across Theater and Film: A Rising Star in Diverse Genres

Former 4Minute member and actress Kwon So-hyun is making waves with her dynamic performances across various genres.

Kwon is currently captivating audiences in Daehakro with her theatrical debut in the play 'Jeong-hee,' which opened last month. The play is a spin-off of the popular drama 'My Mister,' told from the perspective of Jeong-hee, the owner of an old bar in Seoul's Huigye-dong. Kwon takes on dual roles as Ji-an and young Jeong-hee, delivering a nuanced performance that captures the characters' evolving emotions through expressive facial expressions and tearful scenes, enhancing the play's immersive experience.

This month, Kwon returns to the big screen with the film 'Tango of Dawn,' which premiered on the 22nd. The film follows Ji-won (played by Lee Yeon), who bears the weight of responsibility left by faith, as she navigates relationships through the clumsy tango steps introduced by her roommate Joo-hee, played by Kwon. Her character, Joo-hee, is a beacon of positivity, connecting relationships while healing her inner wounds in her unique way, making her journey a key highlight of the film.

Kwon has become known as an 'actress loved by film festivals,' with her previous lead role in 'Manhole' being invited to the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival. 'Tango of Dawn' has also been recognized for its artistic merit, being invited to prestigious festivals such as the 29th Busan International Film Festival and the 9th Berlin Korean Independent Film Festival.

Despite the different genres, Kwon consistently receives praise for her impactful roles, skillfully portraying complex emotions without overacting, thus solidifying her position as a talented actress.

Having been active in theater and film in the first half of the year, Kwon is set to return to television in the drama 'Empathy Cells' later this year. She continues to expand her acting spectrum across theater, film, and drama.
