Kim Hyang-gi Shines in 'The Absolute Value of Romance' as a BL Novel Writer
In the first four episodes of the Coupang Play series 'The Absolute Value of Romance,' released on the 17th, Kim Hyang-gi plays Yeoui-joo, a high school student by day and a secret BL (Boys Love) web novel writer by night, delivering a fresh shock to viewers.
In the series, Yeoui-joo is an eccentric character who unconsciously projects obsessive narratives onto four handsome new teachers. Kim Hyang-gi skillfully balances Yeoui-joo's delusional scenes with her unique pure visuals and playful acting, convincing the audience. Her portrayal of a character absorbed in her own writing, with dopamine-filled eyes, has drawn praise as a 'rediscovery of Kim Hyang-gi.'
In this project, Kim Hyang-gi delivers an immersive performance, fully embodying her character. She portrays a series of misfortunes, including breaking her phone screen and chasing a garbage truck to retrieve glasses she accidentally broke and discarded, adding vitality to the character of Yeoui-joo and enhancing the series' engagement.
Particularly in the ending of episode 4, Yeoui-joo's novel, inspired by her teachers, begins to gain explosive online attention, marking a new phase. Anticipation is high for the upcoming growth and secretive writing journey of writer Yeoui-joo. All eyes are on what Kim Hyang-gi will showcase next.
