SBS's upcoming Friday-Saturday drama 'Brave New World' features Im Ji-yeon as a Joseon-era villainess who awakens her survival instincts in 2026 South Korea.

Premiering on May 8, 'Brave New World' is a romantic comedy drama about Shin Se-ri (played by Im Ji-yeon), a struggling actress possessed by the spirit of a notorious Joseon villainess, and Cha Sae-gye (played by Heo Nam-joon), a ruthless chaebol known as a monster of capitalism. Directed by Han Tae-seop, known for 'Stove League' and 'Cheer Up', and written by newcomer Kang Hyun-joo, the drama promises a dynamic synergy between the lead actors Im Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-joon.

The first teaser video of 'Brave New World' has been released, showcasing the intense survival instincts of the 'Joseon villainess' in 21st-century Korea. Kang Dan-sim (played by Im Ji-yeon), who died after drinking poison in Joseon, time-slips into the body of Shin Se-ri, a struggling actress in modern Korea. Initially bewildered by her new surroundings, Se-ri quickly adapts, declaring, “Dying is not an option!” This reversal in mood piques curiosity.

Particularly, Se-ri's determination to survive in this new world is highlighted as she boldly declares, “I will live this life to the fullest.” The teaser shows Se-ri reading newspapers with bright eyes, sprinting energetically, and even performing a somersault kick, showcasing her fierce adaptability and spirit in 2026 Korea.

Adding to the intrigue is the encounter between Se-ri and the 'ruthless chaebol' Cha Sae-gye. Se-ri boldly tells Sae-gye, “I’ll use you as my spear and shield,” and gazes at him with wide, cat-like eyes. The teaser further shows Se-ri slapping the unconscious Sae-gye, with his response, “She’s a truly amusing woman,” hinting at their unpredictable relationship and the war-like romance between the Joseon villainess and the ruthless chaebol.
