Director Park Jun-woo Discusses New Crime Thriller 'Scarecrow' Inspired by Infamous Serial Murders
On the 13th, a press conference for the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' was held at The Saint in D-Cube City, Guro-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Park Hae-soo, Lee Hee-jun, Kwak Sun-young, and director Park Jun-woo.
'Scarecrow' is a crime investigation thriller about a detective who, while investigating a serial killer, unexpectedly forms a partnership with someone he despises. The series is based on the Lee Choon-jae serial murders that occurred in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, from September 15, 1986, to April 3, 1991.
Lee Hee-jun, who collaborates with Park Hae-soo's character despite their mutual disdain, portrays prosecutor Cha Si-young, who aspires to enter politics. Lee Hee-jun explained, "Cha Si-young is a character full of ambition. Although fictional, he is entangled in intricate and complex relationships, which makes him intriguing. The script was also captivating, which led me to choose this project."
Director Park Jun-woo stated, "I wanted to explore why Lee Choon-jae was missed and why the murder cases remained unsolved for 30 years, which led to the creation of this series." He added, "This work has a different feel from the film 'Memories of Murder.' We have put a lot of thought into how to differentiate it, so please look forward to it," he said with a smile.
'Scarecrow' premieres on the 20th at 10 PM.
