SBS's 'Running Man' is once again at the center of controversy due to its portrayal of love lines. Viewers are expressing fatigue over the repetitive and unconvincing relationship setups.

On the episode aired on the 29th of last month, singer Sung Si-kyung and BTOB's Lee Chang-sub appeared as guests. The episode prominently featured love line plots between the members and guests. The production team paired Song Ji-hyo with Lee Chang-sub and Ji Ye-eun with Sung Si-kyung to drive the episode's content.

This direction has gained more attention in light of the recent 'background controversy' involving Song Ji-hyo. Amidst criticism from some viewers about Song Ji-hyo's diminishing presence, there is speculation that the production team attempted to compensate for this through love lines.

Critics argue that the love lines lack credibility. Song Ji-hyo, born in 1981, and Lee Chang-sub, born in 1991, have a 10-year age difference. While such age differences are not impossible in entertainment or reality, the sudden formation of their relationship without supporting narrative has been deemed awkward by many. The contrived setup without a natural flow has been criticized for hindering immersion.

The love line involving Ji Ye-eun has also faced similar criticism. Unlike her previous successful pairings with actors of similar age like Kang Hoon and Jang Dong-yoon, her connections with Yang Se-chan and Sung Si-kyung seem to expand without context. The impression is that the settings change according to the situation rather than building consistent relationships.

Some viewers have commented, "A pairing like Song Ji-hyo and Sung Si-kyung, who are closer in age, would have felt more natural." For love lines to function as an entertainment device, a minimum level of realism and relationship narrative is necessary.

Love lines have long been used as a device in entertainment. They are effective when they create freshness and expand relationships through unexpected combinations. However, in the case of 'Running Man,' the overly artificial setups have led to more fatigue than enjoyment.

After the broadcast, viewers expressed sentiments such as "It feels forced," "It seems like filler content," and "Love lines are now just stale." There is considerable criticism that the repetitive setups diminish the overall fun of the program.

There is analysis that the long-running show 'Running Man' is at a crossroads for change. Instead of repeating the same format, there is a call for new attempts in character utilization and planning.
