SBS 'Tail' Unveils Shocking Patricide Case: A Son's Gruesome Crime
On the episode aired on the 2nd, 'The Story That Bites Its Tail' (hereafter 'Tail') presented the chilling details of a horrific parricide case in the episode titled 'The World's Best Killer(?) - The Murderer and the Manipulator'. Guests Song Ha-young from fromis_9, actress Park Hyo-joo, and chef Yoon Nam-no appeared as listeners, following the horrifying details of the case with disbelief.
On January 2, 2019, in a rural village in Seocheon, Chungnam, a 60-year-old man named Son was found dead in his bedroom with his hands bound with duct tape after being reported missing. The suspect had tortured the victim by pouring wasabi water on his face, and the case appeared to be a locked-room murder, suggesting the involvement of someone familiar with the victim. Yoon Nam-no lamented, "This is not something a human would do."
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator was the victim's son, Son Ki-chang (alias). He confessed to the crime, stating, "I thought he wasn't my real father," and "I wanted to kill him and take his wealth." It was also confirmed that he used the victim's card to purchase gold and fled after the murder. Yoon Nam-no remarked, "It's brutal," while Song Ha-young commented, "He seems like a psychopath."
The arrest revealed even more shocking details. His bag contained duct tape, a hammer, and a knife, indicating he was planning another crime. He was targeting businesses run by women or elderly households. Yoon Nam-no expressed anger, saying, "I hate it when people target the vulnerable," and "I wouldn't have been able to stand it if he was in front of me."
Son Ki-chang's statements were even more chilling. He expressed a desire to be "the coolest killer in the world" and lamented, "I'm frustrated I couldn't kill more."
The case also involved an accomplice, drawing attention to their motives. Son Ki-chang claimed he acted under the instructions of another man, describing him as "a god-like figure who could get me into the Guinness Book of World Records as a murderer," "a global killer," and "a god of the dark world." The investigation revealed this person to be Shin Young-kyun (alias), and the two had planned the crime in advance, preparing tools and breaking into the victim's home to torture and kill him.
The listeners were left speechless by the absurd beliefs that led to such a heinous crime. Park Hyo-joo said, "He's not human," while Yoon Nam-no added, "I can't speak. It's too horrific," and "It's like something out of a movie. It's too brutal." Song Ha-young commented, "He's not human, he's a monster."
Messages exchanged between the two revealed they referred to the victim Son as a 'bug', with Shin Young-kyun telling Son Ki-chang, "You could kill 200," "You need to kill more to be recognized," and "With your skills, you could kill 300 and not get caught," adding to the shock.
The court did not recognize Son Ki-chang's claim of mental illness and sentenced him to life imprisonment, while Shin Young-kyun was sentenced to 40 years as a co-conspirator. Experts analyzed them as "the worst combination that should never have met."
The case ended in further tragedy. Son Ki-chang continued to doubt his paternity, but it was revealed that his father had left all his assets to him in a will, bringing a twist and tears. Park Hyo-joo expressed, "I can't imagine his feelings," while Song Ha-young said, "It's more like a movie than a movie, and it's heartbreaking and futile." Yoon Nam-no couldn't hide his shock and sorrow, saying, "I didn't want to cry on the show, but I can't stop the tears. How can a human life be treated like this for a few bucks?" and "It feels like being hit on the head repeatedly."
