JTBC's New Drama 'Fighting Worthlessness' Unveils Star-Studded Poster

The upcoming JTBC weekend drama 'Fighting Worthlessness' has released a captivating poster featuring a star-studded cast including Koo Kyo-hwan, Go Yoon-jung, Oh Jung-se, Kang Mal-geum, Park Hae-joon, Bae Jong-ok, Choi Young-won, Han Sun-hwa, Jeon Bae-soo, Shim Hee-seop, Bae Myung-jin, Jo Min-guk, and Park Ye-ni. This drama marks Go Yoon-jung's next project following her appearance in Netflix's 'Is This Love Translatable?' released in January. Born in 1996, Go Yoon-jung previously shared the screen with Kim Seon-ho, born in 1986, and now pairs with Koo Kyo-hwan, born in 1982, showcasing a fresh dynamic.

Set to premiere on April 18, 'Fighting Worthlessness' (abbreviated as 'FW') explores the journey of a person struggling with jealousy and envy amidst successful friends, seeking inner peace. The poster, unveiled on the 2nd, hints at the drama's unique theme.

The arrangement of characters is particularly striking. Centered around Hwang Dong-man (Koo Kyo-hwan), who is lounging on a table, the 12 surrounding characters appear as if cut out from the background, floating in an ethereal manner. This visual metaphorically represents the existential alienation of modern individuals questioning their worth.

The tagline, "We were all the same back then, when we were nothing," resonates deeply, encapsulating the disparity between the past, where everyone was equal, and the present, where some advance while others remain stagnant. This intriguing design and tagline combination foreshadows the drama's profound themes.

Hwang Dong-man's presence is commanding. Aspiring to debut as a film director for 20 years, he is perceived as shameless by society. His childish antics, sprawling on the table as if it were his living room, showcase his immaturity. Yet, he is a 'litmus test' character, reacting to others' emotions.

The 12 characters surrounding Hwang Dong-man each offer unique perspectives. Go Yoon-jung plays Byun Eun-ah, a planning PD who provides comfort to Hwang Dong-man. Oh Jung-se portrays Park Kyung-se, a director who frequently clashes with Hwang Dong-man, maintaining tension. Kang Mal-geum's character, Go Hye-jin, and Park Hae-joon's character, Hwang Jin-man, add depth to the ensemble.

Bae Jong-ok plays top actress Oh Jung-hee, entangled with Hwang Dong-man, while Choi Young-won portrays Choi Dong-hyun, a film company CEO who despises incompetence. Han Sun-hwa's character, Jang Mi-ran, and Jeon Bae-soo's character, Park Young-soo, contribute to the drama's emotional complexity.

Shim Hee-seop's character, Lee Jun-hwan, genuinely cares for Hwang Dong-man, while Bae Myung-jin, Jo Min-guk, and Park Ye-ni's characters form a dynamic network, enhancing the drama's realism. Their interactions reflect the longing for past innocence and the struggle to remain relevant.

'FW' is a collaboration between writer Park Hae-young, known for crafting profound narratives, and director Cha Young-hoon, celebrated for capturing extraordinary bonds among ordinary people. The drama, focusing on the universal emotion of 'anxiety,' is anticipated to be a top release in early 2026, offering hope to those feeling worthless. It premieres on April 18 at 10:40 PM on JTBC.
