AKMU's Chanhyuk Helps Sister Suhyun Overcome Slump with Unique Support
On the October 1st episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' AKMU siblings Chanhyuk and Suhyun appeared as guests.
The duo recently left YG Entertainment after a decade and established a new company, Inspiration Well, while preparing for their fourth studio album comeback.
Currently living together, Chanhyuk proposed the arrangement to support Suhyun, who was struggling. He noted, "She seemed to have a hard time living independently without properly learning how to live alone." Suhyun shared, "It started as a work-related slump and turned into a severe life slump as I endured painful emotions."
Chanhyuk confessed, "I didn't want to have regrets. Looking 10 or 20 years ahead, if I didn't take care of Suhyun now, she might ask, 'Why didn't you help me back then?' I didn't want to be that person." He added, "I feared that if I left her alone, a future where I couldn't see her might come. That scared me."
Chanhyuk expressed, "When I thought about Suhyun not being in front of me, I felt I hadn't done my best for her. I thought I would regret it." He continued, "While she's within my reach, I wanted to do what I could. I saw it as producing her life, like creating a song. I wanted to help her flourish."
To help Suhyun, Chanhyuk suggested living together. Suhyun explained, "When my brother realized the seriousness and decided to help, I wasn't even seeing my family. I felt ashamed to face them because they worried so much about me." She added, "While distancing from family, my brother proposed living together. It was a complete training." Chanhyuk presented it as a 'healthy life' to avoid burdening her.
Ahead of their comeback, Chanhyuk initiated a 'mental reform camp.' As a former Marine, he said, "It's a familiar term for me. I felt we couldn't continue as we were. We had become too comfortable. After working in a good environment like YG for over 10 years, I questioned if starting like this was right. We needed hunger. We did hard training for three weeks." Suhyun shared, "For hunger, we didn't eat regular meals, only chicken breast. We exercised almost all day. He applied routines from his Marine days." On the eighth day of the rigorous schedule, Suhyun even cried. Phone usage was also restricted. Suhyun laughed, "Looking back, I wonder if I could have run away, but I grew a lot."
