'Divine Law Office' Captivates Viewers with Record Ratings and Unlikely Heroes

SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Divine Law Office' has captivated audiences, breaking through a 12.8% viewership rating. The show has gained attention for the extraordinary roles played by the characters supporting Yoo Yeon-seok.

The sixth episode, aired on the 28th, achieved a series-high rating of 12.8%. Meanwhile, actor Jung Kyung-ho, known as Yoo Yeon-seok's close friend, previously portrayed a similar role in MBC's 'Labor Attorney No Moo-jin,' which ended last May. Despite his compelling performance as a ghost-seeing labor attorney, the show struggled with ratings around 4-5%.

The main characters of 'Divine Law Office' are far from what society typically deems successful. The protagonist, Shin Yi-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok), was once a promising legal talent but is trapped by the stigma of his corrupt prosecutor father, leading to repeated failures in the job market. His steadfast supporter, brother-in-law Yoon Bong-soo (played by Jeon Seok-ho), is a struggling actor living with his in-laws, and Father Matteo (played by Jung Seung-gil) is a humble priest at a small local church.

Their true strength emerges when they encounter unjust spirits. Having faced societal prejudices themselves, they are uniquely attuned to the quiet voices of the deceased. Despite not being able to see ghosts, Yoon Bong-soo and Father Matteo warmly greet the empty spaces Shin Yi-rang points to, offering solace to the spirits. Their pure-hearted belief and respect for the unseen make them the ultimate superheroes for these lost souls.

Shin Yi-rang's mother, Park Kyung-hwa (played by Kim Mi-kyung), who runs a butcher shop, is the foundation of his empathetic nature and a constant source of support. She becomes a powerful guardian, protecting her son whenever he is in danger. Despite her worries about his involvement in risky situations, she comforts the spirit of a wronged idol trainee, Kim Soo-ah (played by Oh Ye-ju), by quickly preparing her favorite spicy rice cakes, offering a comfort stronger than any legal code.

'Divine Law Office' conveys the message that not only a select few can save the world, but the kind hearts and great goodwill of ordinary neighbors can create miracles. As Shin Yi-rang unexpectedly gains the ability to see ghosts and helps them find peace, he embraces his role as a savior of spirits, supported by everyday heroes, offering viewers a profound sense of humanity beyond catharsis.

The production team stated, "Although Shin Yi-rang and his companions each have their own deficiencies, together they form a perfect synergy. As the series reaches its midpoint in episodes 7-8, the bond among Shin Yi-rang's team will grow stronger, leading to even more exciting developments."
