SBS Drama 'Shin & Law Office' Captivates Viewers with Thrilling Plot and Record Ratings
In the episode aired on the 28th, 'Shin & Law Office' (directed by Shin Jung-hoon, written by Kim Ga-young & Kang Chul-kyu) showcased Shin I-rang (played by Yoo Yeon-seok) being released due to insufficient evidence after being arrested as a murder suspect. He then takes a bold step to catch the real murderer of a genius scientist.
Shin I-rang's electrifying performance led to a ratings surge, with a 10.6% viewership in the metropolitan area, 10% nationwide, and a peak of 12.8% per minute. It dominated all mini-series airing at the same time on Friday and Saturday, achieving the highest ratings for three consecutive weeks. The 2049 target audience rating also soared to 3.5%, peaking at 4.22%, making it the top program across all channels and programs for the week. This demonstrates the show's overwhelming popularity and status as a trending hit.
Shin I-rang, who was arrested for the murder of Jeon Sang-ho (played by Yoon Na-moo), was released as a 'first discoverer' level witness after forensic analysis revealed that the fingerprints on the gloves were not from the crime but from the discovery process. Despite his mother's desperate pleas, he resolved to continue his work as a lawyer for spirits, valuing it more than money or fame.
Shin I-rang and the deceased client Jeon Sang-ho suspected Jeon's father-in-law, Kim Tae-joon (played by Kim Hong-pa), the head of the research lab, as the real culprit. However, the truth was revealed in the visitation room. When Jeon Sang-ho, through Shin I-rang's body, recited a love code to his wife Kim Soo-jung (played by Jung Ga-hee), she broke down in tears, confessing that she falsely admitted to the murder to protect her father, the only one who could care for her mother suffering from a rare disease.
Meanwhile, Han Na-hyun (played by Lee Som) made a strategic decision. Not believing in ghosts but recognizing Shin I-rang as a 'key player' in solving the case, she apologized for her misunderstanding and teamed up with him. They narrowed down the investigation, suspecting that Kim Soo-jung's deep sleep on the day of the crime was due to 'chamomile tea' given by senior researcher Koo Hyo-jung (played by Um Jun-ki). They identified Koo Hyo-jung, who had severe myopia, as a prime suspect based on his testimony and the autopsy report.
Shin I-rang executed an extraordinary trap. Using AI voice conversion devices, he transformed the breeding facility into a 'haunted site,' with Yoon Bong-soo (played by Jeon Seok-ho) acting as Jeon Sang-ho's double. Disguised as a shaman under pin lights, Shin I-rang asked chillingly, "Do you still see me as a lawyer?" Terrified, Koo Hyo-jung confessed to the crime, driven by inferiority and jealousy. Jeon Sang-ho's spirit, filled with rage, possessed Shin I-rang again, delivering a powerful emotional outburst. At the climax, Han Na-hyun unlocked the breeding facility, unleashing guard dogs to subdue Koo Hyo-jung, delivering a 'girl crush' moment.
After solving the case, Jeon Sang-ho completed a cure through Shin I-rang, leading to the recovery of Kim Soo-jung's mother. Leaving a final gift for his family, he departed peacefully. Shin I-rang, through this case, realized the importance of those who stand by him, growing as a person. However, at the end of the broadcast, a mysterious, sorrowful presence enveloped Shin I-rang, hinting at the arrival of another spirit, leaving viewers eagerly anticipating the next episode.
SBS's 'Shin & Law Office' airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM.
