Actress Hwang Bo-ra Faces IVF Challenges Amid Second Pregnancy Attempt
On the 24th, a video titled 'Emergency Room Visit During IVF Injections... Should I Give Up? | IVF Side Effects, Infertility Vlog' was released on the YouTube channel 'Hwang Bo-ra Variety'.
Later, Hwang returned to the hospital. After her appointment, she revealed, "It's been almost two months since I started IVF, but they said they couldn't see any follicles, which was disappointing." She continued, "I went to the pharmacy to get a prescription for progesterone, and someone there said they were inspired to try IVF again after watching my video. Hearing that made me think I shouldn't give up," adding, "It was disappointing, but it gave me new hope."
On her seventh attempt, Hwang expressed her frustration, "I didn't expect it to happen quickly, but I never imagined my follicles wouldn't develop for two months. I'm feeling a bit down."
There was no significant progress on her eighth attempt either. Hwang stated, "If it doesn't work this time, I might have to try another method. I'm willing to try anything beneficial for my body." Regarding the test results, she said, "I thought the round shapes were follicles, but they turned out to be cysts," expressing her disappointment.
On her ninth attempt, Hwang decided to combine her treatment with injections. On the first day of injections, she said, "It really hurts," but persevered through the pain.
By the fourth day of injections, she developed facial breakouts, and her skin issues and swelling worsened over time. She noted, "It's been a week since I started the injections, and the swelling continues. My lymph nodes are extremely swollen," adding, "I'm a complete mess right now."
Hwang's body was swollen, and her abdomen was covered with injection marks and bruises. Eventually, she decided, "I will stop the IVF injections for now," expressing her frustration.
However, the swelling worsened, and she even suffered a corneal tear in her right eye, requiring an eye patch. On her way home from the hospital, Hwang contemplated, "If the follicle retrieval doesn't work this time, I might take a month off," feeling dejected.
Despite her family's advice to stop, Hwang resolved, "I've endured a week of injections, so I want to keep trying." She expressed her determination, saying, "There's no time to be sad or depressed," showing her sincere desire for a second child.
Hwang Bo-ra married Kim Young-hoon, the son of actor Kim Yong-gun and brother of Ha Jung-woo, in 2022. She conceived her first child through IVF and gave birth to a son in May 2024.
