The Enchanting Chemistry of Chae Jong-hyeop and Lee Sung-kyung in 'Your Glorious Season'
MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Your Glorious Season' tells the unpredictable and radiant romance of 'Chan,' a man who lives every day like an exciting summer vacation, and 'Ran,' a woman who has confined herself to winter. As the show receives praise for its sensory direction and delicate emotional lines, director Jung Sang-hee has revealed some behind-the-scenes insights.
In 'Your Glorious Season,' the imagery of the seasons transcends mere background, intertwining with the characters' narratives and emotions. It portrays the journey of Song Ha-ran (played by Lee Sung-kyung) and Sun Woo-chan (played by Chae Jong-hyeop) as they gradually come closer to the same temperature, despite residing in different seasons. The changing light, colors, and nature in each scene intuitively reveal the characters' inner worlds, resonating with viewers.
Notably, the drone shots in the Gyeongju business trip scene in episode 5, and the symbolic depiction of Song Ha-ran's growing longing for Sun Woo-chan, akin to the waxing moon, stand out. Episode 6's scene of Sun Woo-chan returning to Song Ha-ran with the first snowfall is another symbolic representation of their evolving relationship.
Director Jung Sang-hee commented, "I approached filming with the hope that the seasons would be felt as the narrative itself, beyond just a backdrop. Song Ha-ran is a person trapped in winter, while Sun Woo-chan lives every day like a summer vacation. Their meeting represents the collision of two seasons, which I believe is the drama's core image. On set, we constantly pondered 'Where is the season in this scene?' and aimed to capture that on screen."
Regarding this, Director Jung stated, "From the script stage, I pondered how to express 'one-inch memories.' I believed that memories mixed with trauma don't surface as they are but remain as fragments." He added, "I considered the temperature, smell, and fleeting images of that day as lingering elements, and prioritized these aspects when creating Chan's flashback scenes."
Meanwhile, 'Your Glorious Season' reaches its midpoint with episode 8 airing on the 20th at 9:50 PM.
