Unexpected Farewell in 'Your Glorious Season': Sun Woo-chan's Sudden Departure Leaves Song Ha-ran Heartbroken
In the fifth episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Your Glorious Season' (directed by Jeong Sang-hee, Kim Young-jae / written by Jo Sung-hee), aired on the 6th, Sun Woo-chan (played by Chae Jong-hyeop) proposed a '3-month trial neighborhood friend' to Song Ha-ran (played by Lee Sung-kyung). However, he abruptly returned to the U.S. before the term ended, leading to a heartbreaking separation.
The episode recorded a nationwide household rating of 4.1% and the same in the metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea. A scene where Song Ha-ran expressed gratitude to Sun Woo-chan for helping her pass a design revision, thanks to photos taken in Gyeongju, reached a peak rating of 4.5%, leaving a lasting impression.
During the episode, Song Ha-ran, who safely arrived in Gyeongju, began learning 'how to live joyfully' while spending time with Sun Woo-chan. Amidst the grand natural scenery, she continued her field study with her team, showing a different side of herself. The delicate portrayal of nature, with autumn-colored mountains and fields, and swaying grass, beautifully captured the moments shared by the two, warming the atmosphere. Song Ha-ran, who usually preferred solitude, was seen naturally mingling with her colleagues, hinting at her gradual change through her time with Sun Woo-chan.
A sudden downpour during the Gyeongju field study created another turning point in their relationship. When Song Ha-ran lost contact while retrieving a scarf, Sun Woo-chan immediately went to find her, and they met again in the mountains, allowing them to look deeper into each other's hearts. Song Ha-ran cautiously inquired about Sun Woo-chan's past, which she heard from his grandmother, but he avoided the question, knowing that his past could cause her more pain. The complex emotions of Song Ha-ran wanting to get closer and Sun Woo-chan unable to open up left viewers with a poignant feeling.
Sun Woo-chan's trigger response and memories from Boston, referred to as '1 inch,' began to surface. During the field study, he experienced persistent tinnitus and visual disturbances, with fragmented memories of broken glass, blood droplets, and metallic sounds flashing through his mind. The unexpected fragments of memory, including scenes from Boston with Kang Hyuk-chan's (played by Kwon Do-hyung) voice, overwhelmed Sun Woo-chan with shock and confusion, bringing him to tears. This process introduced Cha Soo-jin (played by Lee Joo-yeon) for the first time, presenting another puzzle piece to the hidden incident.
After the field study, Sun Woo-chan stayed in Gyeongju to wrap up the schedule, while Song Ha-ran headed back to Seoul. Before parting, Sun Woo-chan gave her a disposable camera, assigning her to capture a happy moment each day, and they promised to meet again in Seoul in 10 days under the full moon. Song Ha-ran began to rediscover the warmth of everyday life, capturing small moments like the moonlit landscape, a geranium pot, Dong-gu's uniform, and Man-jae's omelet rice, which she would have otherwise overlooked.
Meanwhile, changes were also brewing among the characters surrounding Nana House. Kim Nana (played by Lee Mi-sook) and Park Man-jae (played by Kang Seok-woo) reminisced about their time in Chuncheon through the 'La Vie en Rose' LP, revealing long-buried emotions. A subtle excitement was detected between Song Ha-young (played by Han Ji-hyun) and Yeon Tae-seok (played by Kwon Hyuk) after their elevator encounter, and it was revealed that Yeon Tae-seok's connection with the Nana family dates back 15 years. Additionally, another variable was added between Song Ha-dam (played by Oh Ye-ju) and Cha Yoo-gyeom (played by Kim Tae-young). After the jewelry shop incident, Ha-dam began to harbor misunderstandings due to Yoo-gyeom's reticence in hiding Kim Nana's secret, creating a tense atmosphere between them.
Towards the end of the episode, Sun Woo-chan unexpectedly left for the U.S. while heading to Seoul, leaving Song Ha-ran facing an unforeseen farewell. After completing the assignment given by Sun Woo-chan, Song Ha-ran discovered memories from Gyeongju secretly captured by him in the developed photos. Remembering Sun Woo-chan's words, "Live joyfully, even if I'm not around later," she eventually shed tears. The poignant ending, hinting at another farewell, left viewers with a heavy heart, eagerly anticipating the next episode.
The sixth episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Your Glorious Season' will be preempted due to the broadcast of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) Korea-Japan match and will air on Friday, the 13th, at 9:50 PM.
