Actress Roh Jeong-eui Reflects on Her Journey from Child Star to Mature Performer
On the YouTube channel 'Jo Hyun-ah's Ordinary Thursday Night,' run by singer Jo Hyun-ah, a video titled 'Maybe... I was a Grand Duke in a Past Life...? Because I Fell in Love with the Heroine at First Sight' was uploaded.
In the video, Roh Jeong-eui, currently starring in the new tvN drama 'I'll Give You the Universe,' candidly shared her life story, built over 14 years, without any reservations.
When Jo Hyun-ah praised Roh's career by saying, "Anyone who works in a field for over 10 years is called a master," Roh humbly responded, "Rather than a master, it feels like I'm gaining enlightenment in the process of understanding life," showcasing her maturity.
Debuting as a child actress and consistently working into adulthood, Roh revealed the intense struggles behind the scenes. She confessed, "The process of growing itself was a dream, so I experienced slumps more than twice as much as others," and recalled, "There was a lot of pressure about transitioning to an adult actress, and even though I tried not to worry about the future, it was overwhelming."
She continued, "While my child actor days were about finding dreams, I started thinking of acting as a true 'job' from the age of twenty." The turning point for Roh was the drama 'Our Beloved Summer,' which she described as a precious milestone that established her presence as an adult actress. She expressed, "I was really happy it did well, and even if it hadn't, I would have continued to work hard," demonstrating her positive and resilient mindset.
Roh also showcased her charming personality by discussing her everyday life and hobbies. She surprised Jo Hyun-ah by mentioning her impressive dance skills, having dreamed of becoming an idol during her high school dance club days.
Roh also expressed her affection for the currently airing drama 'I'll Give You the Universe.' She explained the plot as "a chaotic romance about young adults who take on the unexpected responsibility of raising their niece, Woo-joo, after her parents' sudden accident." Through her role as job-seeking Woo Hyun-jin, she aims to represent the realistic struggles of today's youth. She even humorously suggested Jo Hyun-ah play the role of a 'mother of three' in the drama, bringing laughter to the set.
Beyond acting, Roh ambitiously declared her ultimate goal: "To become a director in the mystery genre who can deliver profound messages to the audience." As Roh Jeong-eui continues to forge her path after 14 years in the industry, anticipation builds for the next chapter of her acting career.
