Yoo Yeon-seok and Lee Som Star in SBS's New Drama 'Shin-i-rang Law Office'
Directed by Shin Jung-hoon and written by Kim Ga-young and Kang Chul-kyu, 'Shin-i-rang Law Office' is produced by Studio S and Mongjakso. The drama follows 'Shin-i-rang', a 'possessed lawyer' who resolves the grudges of the deceased, and 'Han Na-hyun', a 'cold-blooded elite lawyer' who stakes everything on winning cases, in a peculiar yet heartwarming adventure.
The script reading session, held at the SBS Ilsan Production Center before the official filming last year, was attended by director Shin Jung-hoon, writers Kim Ga-young and Kang Chul-kyu, and main cast members including Yoo Yeon-seok, Lee Som, Kim Kyung-nam, Jeon Seok-ho, Kim Mi-kyung, Son Yeo-eun, Lee Ah-rin, Jung Seung-gil, and Heo Sung-tae. A making-of video capturing the actors' chemistry and humorous moments was also released.
Yoo Yeon-seok, who plays 'Shin-i-rang', leads the scene with his versatile acting, portraying a wide range of emotions from the warm-heartedness of a man who can't pass by a grandmother selling vegetables on the street, to the confusion and change that ensue when he suddenly starts seeing ghosts. This marks his first foray into full-fledged comedic acting, and his changing expressions and bold reactions during possession scenes brought laughter to the set. Yoo Yeon-seok expressed his determination, saying, “I will immerse myself in the role and do my best to act.”
Kim Kyung-nam, portraying 'Yang Do-kyung', the head of Taebaek Law Firm and Shin-i-rang's rival, delivered a dense performance of precarious ambition and sharp energy. As a character who has led Taebaek in the absence of his father, the firm's actual owner, he convincingly depicted the ambition of someone striving for recognition and trust. His brief lines and glances built the overarching conflict, sparking curiosity about his complex relationships with Shin-i-rang and Han Na-hyun.
The supporting cast, including the 'I-rang family', added warmth to the drama. Jeon Seok-ho, playing Shin-i-rang's brother-in-law 'Yoon Bong-soo', brought lively energy with his realistic portrayal of a character with boundless affection for his family. As a part-time actor and employee at 'Dugeun Dugeun Meat Restaurant', his diverse background shines unexpectedly as he becomes the office manager at Shin-i-rang Law Office. Jeon Seok-ho's unique human touch ensures both laughter and empathy.
Kim Mi-kyung, as 'Park Kyung-hwa', I-rang's mother and the owner of 'Dugeun Dugeun Meat Restaurant', anchors the drama with her presence. She raised I-rang while running the butcher shop, embodying a character with a strong hand but a warm heart. Joining them are Son Yeo-eun as I-rang's sister 'Shin Sa-rang' and Lee Ah-rin as her daughter 'Yoon Da-bong', completing the lively family chemistry.
Jung Seung-gil, playing the mysterious priest 'Ma Tae-oh', adds a gentle warmth to the drama with his positive energy. He provides meaningful advice to Shin-i-rang at crucial moments. Special clients also enhance the drama's appeal, with Heo Sung-tae making a special appearance as 'Lee Kang-pung', capturing attention with his strong presence. His unpredictable interactions with Shin-i-rang promise both laughter and tension, contributing to the unique world of 'Shin-i-rang Law Office'.
The production team stated, “Despite it being the first script reading, the actors perfectly immersed themselves in their characters, showing impressive chemistry. We are preparing to deliver a blend of comedy, humanity, and courtroom drama with unique interactions with special clients, offering both humor and warmth. We ask for your anticipation and interest.”
SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Shin-i-rang Law Office' premieres on March 13th at 9:50 PM.
