Korean Star Gree Embraces New Family Dynamics, Calls Stepmom 'Mom'
On the October 4th episode of MBC's 'Radio Star,' Gree made an appearance to announce his military discharge.
Before enlisting, Gree had shared his post-discharge plans on the show, which included using his real name professionally, attending his younger sister's sports day, and resolving how to address his stepmother.
Previously, Gree had referred to his stepmother as 'Nuna,' but he has now decided to call her 'Mom.' In a text message to her, the word 'Mom' appeared prominently.
Gree shared, "I thought the transition would happen naturally. It felt like a confession to say, 'I'll call you Mom from now on.' I already thought of her as my mom, but saying it was difficult. The day before my discharge, I still hadn't called her Mom. I mustered the courage to call, but she didn't answer." He continued, "I had to turn in my phone by 9 PM, so I waited until 8:55. I sent a text saying, 'It felt strangely difficult to tell you I'd call you Mom from now on. I've always thought of you as Mom. Let's meet for a meal soon,' and I addressed her as Mom." He added, "I received a reply, but I haven't checked it yet. The preview seemed positive," confirming that he achieved his goal of resolving the address.
The show also revealed the stepmother's response, which read, 'Titles don't matter; we're already family,' 'I worried when Suhyun (his sister) was born and growing up, wondering if she'd ask why Donghyun calls me Nuna,' 'It touched me that you called me Mom,' and 'See you soon, son,' evoking an emotional response.
