MC Gree Opens Up About Calling His Stepmother 'Mom' on 'Radio Star'

MC Gree, the son of broadcaster Kim Gura, has shared that he has finally settled on how to address his stepmother after his father's remarriage in 2020.

On the October 4th episode of 'Radio Star,' guests Kim Won-jun, Jo Hye-ryun, Hanhae, and Gree appeared in a special titled 'SHOW! Walking the Flower Path~'.

During the show, Gree candidly revealed the backstory of his decision to change how he addresses his stepmother, a topic he had been contemplating since before his military discharge. Previously calling her 'noona' (older sister), he decided to start calling her 'mom' after his discharge.

Gree admitted, "I thought it would be a natural transition, but it wasn't easy. Saying 'I'll call you mom from now on' felt like a confession, and it was quite embarrassing." He continued, "In my heart, I already thought of her as my mom, but it was hard to say it out loud. I kept postponing it until the day before my discharge."

Ultimately, he mustered the courage to call her the day before his discharge, but when he couldn't reach her, he sent a heartfelt text message instead. Gree shared, "I called her 'mom' in the message and said, 'I've always thought of you as my mom.' She was very happy to hear it," warming the studio with his story.

Gree also revisited the plans he had shared on 'Radio Star' before his enlistment, which included using his real name, Kim Dong-hyun, for his career, attending his sister Su-hyun's sports day, and calling his stepmother 'mom.'

He commented, "Using my real name for my career seems difficult because (MMA fighter) Kim Dong-hyun has become so prominent," eliciting laughter. He added, "I think I can attend Su-hyun's sports day. I've been to the Marine Corps and built up my stamina."

Regarding the decision to call his stepmother 'mom,' Gree expressed, "Announcing that I would call her 'mom' felt awkward, but I was already prepared to do so in my heart."

Meanwhile, Kim Gura remarried a non-celebrity in 2020 after his 2015 divorce and welcomed a second daughter in 2021.
