Korean Actor Lee Deok-hwa Reflects on Life-Altering Accident and the Love That Saved Him

Korean actor Lee Deok-hwa recently opened up about a life-threatening accident he experienced at the age of 25, which required extensive surgery.

On the October 4th episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block,' Lee Deok-hwa appeared as a guest.

During the show, Lee shared the harrowing details of a major traffic accident that abruptly changed his life while he was aspiring to be the 'James Dean of Korea.' He recounted, "I was under a 10-ton bus with my motorcycle. I was dragged a considerable distance in that state. I was wearing jeans, but only the belt remained. I had a leather jacket on, but only the collar was left. I was nearly dead," leaving the audience in shock.

Lee's condition at the time was beyond critical. He revealed, "I underwent over 50 surgeries, had more than a meter of my intestines removed, and received 1,500 stitches. Doctors told me every day that it was a critical moment, and my colleagues even paid their respects in advance."

By his side during those critical days was his then-girlfriend, now his wife. Lee expressed, "I survived thanks to my wife, who took care of me with utmost devotion, even handling my bodily functions for three years. I still face many challenges today and have been classified as having a third-degree disability."

Lee added, "They put bars on the hospital window to prevent me from making any rash decisions due to the shock." He conveyed his deep gratitude to his wife, saying, "She stayed at the hospital for three years, enduring hardships. Even when her sisters came to take her away, she would return after a few days. There's no one else like her. If I couldn't meet her again, I wouldn't want to be reborn."
