K-Pop Star Jang Hyun-seung Reflects on Past Controversies and Offers Heartfelt Apology to Fans

K-pop artist Jang Hyun-seung has publicly addressed past controversies regarding his behavior during his time with the group Beast, offering a sincere apology to fans for what he describes as his 'dark period.'

The YouTube channel 'MMTG Civilization Express,' produced by SBS News, recently featured a video titled 'Jang Hyun-seung's Update Post-Exorcism (w. Exorcist JaeJae).'

In the video, host JaeJae revisited photos from Jang's controversial past, highlighting his so-called 'dark period.' Upon seeing a bizarre selfie with his eyes rolled back, Jang expressed disbelief, saying, "I can't believe I posted that myself," acknowledging his lack of maturity at the time.

JaeJae offered words of comfort, suggesting that such things can happen, but Jang firmly disagreed, criticizing his past actions with a mix of humor and regret.

The most notable transformation discussed was Jang's change before and after his military service. JaeJae noted that many people commented on Jang's clearer demeanor post-service, to which Jang responded, "Everyone becomes a better person in the military."

Jang shared that enlisting later than most instilled in him a sense of responsibility, emphasizing that he didn't want to inconvenience others. He attributed his transformation to the structured lifestyle and exposure to sunlight during his service.

Towards the end of the broadcast, a preview showed Jang directly apologizing for specific incidents that disappointed fans. Reflecting on a fan meeting where he gave curt responses, Jang criticized his past behavior, admitting, "I was rude." He expressed regret for responding dismissively to fans' questions, acknowledging the hurt he caused and offering a heartfelt apology.

Debuting with Beast in 2009, Jang Hyun-seung gained fame for his unique performances but left the group in 2016 following ongoing behavior controversies. After completing his military service and a stint with rapper Swings' label, Jang is now pursuing a solo career under Warner Music Korea's MPLIFY. Through this broadcast, he aims to shed his 'dark' image and present a more mature persona to the public and his fans.
