SHINee's Key Steps Down as Host of MBC Entertainment Awards Amid Controversy
SHINee's Key has stepped down from his role as host of the MBC Entertainment Awards.

On the 17th, MBC's 'Entertainment Awards' team confirmed to TENASIA, "Key, who was scheduled to host the 2025 MBC Entertainment Awards, has expressed his intention to suspend activities. Respecting his decision, the production team has decided to proceed with the awards ceremony with Jun Hyun-moo and Jang Do-yeon as the two hosts."

Recently, Key found himself at the center of controversy due to allegations of a connection with 'Injection Auntie' A, who is suspected of illegal medical procedures. The controversy began when a photo of a dog, believed to be Key's pet, appeared on A's social media.

After a 12-day silence during his world tour, Key released a statement. SM Entertainment stated, "Key was introduced to Mr. Lee, who works at a hospital in Gangnam, through a friend's recommendation and initially met him as a doctor. Key continued to receive treatment at the hospital and, in some cases where visiting the hospital was difficult, received home visits." SM acknowledged the circumstances of illegal medical procedures.

According to SM, Key recently became aware of the controversy surrounding Mr. Lee's medical license and realized he was not a licensed doctor. SM stated, "Key deeply regrets his ignorance and has decided to step down from all scheduled activities and programs." Consequently, he will not be hosting the MBC 'Entertainment Awards' as previously planned.

Key also issued a personal apology on his social media, stating, "I have always prided myself on staying away from such matters, but this mindset prevented me from wisely observing my surroundings. I am deeply sorry and ashamed to those who believed in and supported me. I will sincerely do everything I can regarding this matter and take time to reflect on myself and my surroundings. I am truly sorry once again."
