Doh Kyung-soo Embraces Villain Role in Disney+ Series 'Castaway City'
Doh Kyung-soo expressed satisfaction with his villainous role in 'Castaway City'.

On the 11th, actor Doh Kyung-soo, who stars in the Disney+ original series 'Castaway City', was interviewed at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

'Castaway City' is an action drama about a young man, Tae-jung (played by Ji Chang-wook), who is wrongfully imprisoned and plans his revenge. The series, which concluded with its 11th episode last week, features Doh Kyung-soo as Yohan, a sculptor who manipulates crime scenes to cover up the crimes of VIPs.

Doh Kyung-soo shared, "I'm happy to hear that many people enjoyed watching it. Among all the projects I've done, I've received the most feedback saying 'it was fun to watch' and 'I liked seeing a new side of you.' It has motivated me to work even harder in the future."

This series marks Doh Kyung-soo's first attempt at playing a villain. He said, "I hadn't done such a role before because I hadn't encountered one. I've always wanted to try it. Rather than feeling burdened or worried, I found it exciting. Expressing something new was a refreshing experience, so I enjoyed filming 'Castaway City'." He added, "I'm not usually someone who expresses emotions or raises my voice. But through this character, I got to shout and push my emotions to the extreme. Experiencing things vicariously through the character was fun."

His short, rugged hairstyle took "four hours to achieve," he explained. Doh Kyung-soo said, "I bleached my hair, damaged it, and then styled it with a drill perm. We used an actual drill for the styling, and then dyed it back to black." He continued, "I was worried that the effort put into the black hairstyle wouldn't be noticeable, but at least two people recognized it, which was satisfying. However, it wasn't very visible in the drama scenes, which was a bit disappointing." He also reflected on other aspects, saying, "I wonder if I could have expressed more emotion when needed. It might have been better if there was more variation in tone during long dialogues, but I feel I delivered them too flatly. In the brutal scenes, I think simpler expressions might have been more effective."

When asked if his convincing villain performance led to any doubts about his character, Doh Kyung-soo replied, "Yes, there were." He added, "Some people looked at me strangely. One person even told me 'don't look at me' while doing my hair. Of course, it was a joke. There were similar reactions from staff on set, which I took as a sign that they were impressed with my performance. However, there was a time at a restaurant when someone grilling meat didn't give me an extra piece, which was a bit disappointing," he laughed.
