Actress Hwang Bo-reum-byeol shared her thoughts on the conclusion of the Wavve original drama 'The 4th Love Revolution'.

Hwang played the role of 'Joo Yeon-san' in the drama, which aired its final episode on the 4th. This was her first foray into the romantic comedy genre, where she portrayed a character that appears logical and rational on the outside but harbors a tender and lovable inner self. Her nuanced performance brought depth to the character.

Hwang's passionate performance, which led the entire storyline while showcasing perfect chemistry with her co-stars, added to the drama's fast-paced immersion and amplified the charm of both the character Joo Yeon-san and the actress herself. Her romantic scenes with actor Kim Yo-han, who played 'Kang Min-hak', also received enthusiastic responses for their heart-fluttering and fresh appeal.

Having built a diverse filmography with roles in 'School 2021', 'The Secret Romantic Guesthouse', 'Maestra', 'Dear M', and 'Jeon, Ran', Hwang successfully transformed her acting once again in 'The 4th Love Revolution', raising expectations for her future endeavors.

Below is a Q&A with actress Hwang Bo-reum-byeol, sharing her thoughts and behind-the-scenes stories as 'The 4th Love Revolution' comes to an end.

Q. All episodes of 'The 4th Love Revolution' have been released. How do you feel about the conclusion?

I didn't realize time would pass so quickly. I sent off the final episode with a bittersweet and warm heart. The time spent with Yeon-san was an unparalleled happiness for me. Watching the show, I found myself missing the members of the Fusion Physical Technology Global Content Development Department.

Q. This was your first attempt at a romantic comedy. How did you feel about playing the character Joo Yeon-san in this new genre?

It was a truly grateful challenge for me. The project gave me the opportunity to fully explore my hidden comedic sense, making every moment on set new and enjoyable. I discovered that I'm someone who doesn't fear being silly and even finds pleasure in monitoring such scenes. (laughs)

Q. What was the biggest reason you decided to join 'The 4th Love Revolution'?

The project itself and especially the unique rhythm of the character Joo Yeon-san were incredibly attractive. Although she appears logical and composed, the small cracks that appear when her heart wavers were endearing. I was eager to portray the subtle changes in her character.

Q. You showed many sides of yourself that weren't seen in previous works. Was there anything that felt truly new to you?

For the first time, I encountered 'comedic timing' that vividly came to life amidst the rapid dialogue. The character required me to finely adjust the speed at which emotions seeped in, which was a new experience in using different acting muscles.

Q. How would you describe Joo Yeon-san, and how would you rate your similarity to her?

Yeon-san is outwardly very logical, but I think she's actually a very tender and delicate person. Her way of defending her inner self with logic and rules is quite endearing and human. On the other hand, as a humanities major, I can't defend myself that way. (laughs) I tend to delve deep into emotions to find their roots. However, there are definitely similarities, so I'd say the sync rate is about 50%.

Q. Is there a scene or line that stands out to you the most?

The scene where Min-hak and Yeon-san approach a test question about what AI can't do in completely different ways but end up writing the same answer is the most memorable. Although the drama doesn't reveal what each wrote, imagining their thoughts shows how different their approaches are, yet they ultimately reach the same conclusion. It was a scene that showcased both the characters' personalities and their relationship.

Q. Joo Yeon-san's extensive dialogue was a hot topic. How did you handle the fast-paced script?

I'm not usually a fast talker, so it was actually fun. It was the most I've spoken quickly in a short period in my life. There were times when I was literally out of breath while delivering lines. (laughs) But maintaining that rhythm was essential to the character and the world of the drama, so I practiced a lot to keep up with the speed and logic.

Q. Joo Yeon-san, who was inexperienced in love, showed many changes after meeting Kang Min-hak. What was your focus when portraying Yeon-san's realization of love?

Yeon-san's emotions don't change suddenly at one point but gradually seep in, so it was more about showing 'small changes' rather than 'big changes'. I focused on subtle reactions like expressions, breathing, and gaze rather than the intensity of emotions. I believed that by naturally building up those moments, viewers would slowly follow Yeon-san's feelings towards Min-hak.

Q. Your chemistry with actor Kim Yo-han, who played Kang Min-hak, was a hot topic. How was the atmosphere on set?

Yo-han has a way of making the set comfortable. Even when I was nervous due to the large amount of dialogue, he naturally matched the tempo and responded well to impromptu reactions, which brought the scenes between Yeon-san and Min-hak to life. I fondly remember the subtle air between us when we were bickering and then suddenly looking at each other.

Q. Lastly, could you say a few words to those who watched 'The 4th Love Revolution'?

Thank you so much to everyone who followed the stories of each character in 'The 4th Love Revolution'. Thanks to you, I will remember this project warmly. I will continue to work hard to greet you with good performances in the future. Thank you.
