Actress Yeom Hye-ran Lends Her Voice to '1948: The Women' Documentary

Actress Yeom Hye-ran, who debuted in 2000, has taken on the role of narrator for the documentary '1948: The Women.'

Yeom Hye-ran joins the meaningful project as a narrator for the special radio documentary '1948: The Women,' produced by Yeosu MBC to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident. This project aims to remember and convey the pain of the era.

The Yeosu-Suncheon Incident began in October 1948 when some military units in the eastern region of Jeollanam-do, including Yeosu and Suncheon, refused orders to suppress the Jeju 4.3 Uprising. As the movement spread to surrounding areas, the government declared the first martial law in Korea and responded with a strong crackdown, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. Since the enactment of a special law in 2021, efforts have been made to uncover the truth and restore honor.

Selected as a project for the 2025 Broadcasting Culture Promotion Foundation's content production support, '1948: The Women' is a radio documentary that reveals the harsh realities of the time through the testimonies of female survivors who lived through the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident. Following her role in the film 'My Name Is,' which dealt with the Jeju 4.3 Uprising, Yeom Hye-ran once again lends her voice to a project that highlights the pain of modern Korean history. Through '1948: The Women,' she stands in a place to view and remember the painful history.

Particularly meaningful for Yeom Hye-ran, who hails from Yeosu, she expressed, "The incident is closely related to the Jeju 4.3 Uprising, which I filmed, and it happened in Yeosu, where I was born and raised, so hearing familiar place names was even more heartbreaking." She added, "Telling the story through the voices of women and children in historical events held great significance. I hope my voice can provide some comfort to the bereaved families."

The three-part series '1948: The Women' will air from the 15th to the 17th at 6:05 PM on Yeosu MBC Standard FM and will also be available on the Yeosu MBC YouTube channel.
