Son Dam-bi Opens Up About Motherhood and Her Decision Against Having a Second Child

On the recent episode of SBS's variety show 'Shoes Off, Single for Men,' aired on the 16th, singer Son Dam-bi shared her thoughts on motherhood and her decision not to have a second child.

The episode, titled 'Queen is Back,' featured guests Lee Ji-hye, Son Dam-bi, and Kim Dol-dol. During the show, Son Dam-bi discussed her transition from being part of the 'DINK' (Dual Income, No Kids) lifestyle to becoming a parent. She revealed, "I spent half of my life alone, so I thought I would spend the other half with someone. I didn't initially want children, but about a year into our marriage, my husband expressed his desire to have a child."

Despite her initial reluctance, Son Dam-bi decided to embrace motherhood, thinking it would be joyful to have a child resembling her beloved husband. She gave birth to a daughter in April and addressed the topic of having more children, stating, "I barely managed to have one at 43. There won't be any more." She recounted the challenges she faced, including undergoing IVF, dealing with placenta previa, and requiring a C-section under general anesthesia due to the high risk of premature birth.

Son Dam-bi's daughter, Hae-i, has been noted for her striking resemblance to her father, Lee Kyu-hyuk. Son Dam-bi shared a humorous moment from her pregnancy, "During an ultrasound, the doctor said, 'The baby doesn't have your face, Dam-bi.' I was so surprised and asked if it was too early to tell."

After giving birth, Son Dam-bi was moved to tears upon seeing her daughter for the first time. Her husband asked, 'Isn't our daughter beautiful?' to which she replied, 'She looks so much like you.' He jokingly asked if she was crying because of that resemblance, but she clarified it was due to the overwhelming emotion.

Lee Ji-hye, upon seeing a photo of Hae-i, commented, "She looks like her dad but turned out beautifully. It's a blessing." She added humorously, "When people say my daughters look like their dad, they cry. But to me, they're adorable." Tak Jae-hoon also chimed in, "My first daughter doesn't look like me, so I find it hard to let her go," eliciting laughter from the audience.
